slowboat as a matter of interest what is the layup of your fins , are they full carbon are they epoxy or vinylester

Thanks for the feedback Chris.
Indeed a 30 should work better in 25+, I usually run a F4 32 on the 100sl.

re spin out : downhaul was ok,so maybe the mast track, or the bottom tip missing was creating it
turtle's fine, good mate smashed his gasoil on the same day even had shell bits in the fin...
Couple of mates here are interested, they actually compare them to the Z fins... never tried them can't comment :-)

They are pretty light - I heard they are hollow, filled with Argon gas and with an expansion chamber in the fin head to preserve the foil chord from the the degrading affect of thermal expansion.

I havent been able to prove this theory but as soon as I can procure a lab coat, some tongs and a bunsen burner I will do some testing. My long jawed vernier callipers always find the truth

Thanks for that wind - got to use the 38 SL2 with an iS110 and 7.8 RacingBlade today in about 14-19knots. To say I'm impressed would be an understatement. Tried extremely hard to spin the fin out but it was rock solid pushing hard up wind in some pretty punishing conditions. Very noticable difference (read control) when going for it too as the board seemed to float over the rougher stuff and not get the jitters like some other fins when getting flighty and was incredibly slippery going broad. The fin performed exactly as Chris had described - well done Slowboat.

BTW - not only do they have fairy dust but are that magical I think they're made in middle earth.

I think 33cm for the IS 90 and 38cm for the IS110 would be great, perhaps drop to 32 and 36 at upper wind ranges for those boards.


I have 2 fins for each board (for upper and lower wind ranges)

M91 - SL1 27 and SL1 30

M112 - SL1 30 and SL1 34

I think the consensus it that the SL1 is a bit slipperier so a fraction more top-end, SL2 has fraction more grunt and more controllable, both are magic fins.

Thanks again for the loan and now I know exactly what you mean about the 30cm SL2 working in the 112. The 30cm SL3 in Slowie's did feel like it had slightly better pointing ability although the SL2 certainly didn't lack in this department when powered up.

Hmmm the Tribals do seem kind of expensive...would cost more than the C3s. For about $61 more dollars I think I'll go for the Carbon clockwoods :D


32 and 36 Tribal Slalom = $636.44 USD
+ shipping to the states = $27ish USD
Total = $663.52 USD

32 and 36 Clockwood mk2 = $669.25 USD
+ shipping to the states = $56.24 USD
Total= $725.50

I wish all the best to Lockwood, he is a precious designer for our sport. But the Tribal G-10 fins seem to be overpriced at 219 to 249 € here. I can get very fine carbon fins for the same amount (less than that actually!). Not to make comparisons, I guess the Tribals will work superbly, but ...! Still it is G-10 with all its limitations. Tectonics past Winter were offered at around 200 USD and free shipping anywhere, that's less than 160 € each, and Tribal as a brand still has to reach the market placement of Tectonics. Totally agree about the carbon Lockwood ones being a bargain in comparison.Or, to look at it the other way: Chris Lockwood and the guys at KA Windsurfing must be totally confident about being offering a superior design that will be reckoned by customers right from the beginning. Which might be good news after all.

I tried the KA Koncept 4.4m 2012 a few times. I did not go any faster for top end though the wind was so up and down going from nothing to low 30's.

Noticed the 4.4m on the i87 wood made the board feel much more flighty and out of control compared to having the 5.6m on it.


Have a narrower 54cm board slalom board with a really narrow tail that I think might suit smaller sails better than the i87.


Intersesting that Jesper doesn't use anything smaller than 6.3 now,reckons smaller sails are too twitchy.

Being around 70 kg,only sails under 5m start to feel twitchy.

For my Isonic 87 I only use 5.7-7.0.. However 6.30 and 7.0 are defiantly most preferable. Fins can make abig difference for how the sails can feel. The new Meanline Fins are wicked. I use a 33Meanline

I will be testing out many sizes of the CL2 and CL3 fins in the coming months and i can give some feedback from my Patrik boards and Severne Sails Combo.

I have a few Meanline fins for Highwind and Low wind that i can try on the small board, but will most likely be for sale if anyone wants a 33 HW and 34 LW

the Vector Volt G10 is the best 28-35 size fin to i have used in high wind and rough water out of the Maui based brands.
