Hi HSM GPS 8.0 sailors. I'm not having the same success as you all seem to having with smooth cam rotation.

Tried rigging my 8.0m 2012 HSM GPS on both a 460 SDM North IMCS25 and a 490 SDM Gun IMCS29. The belly and leech look great but in trying to flip the rig (only on the beach with minimal wind for test rigging purposes, not on the water yet), the battens flip to the opposite side but the cams only rotate as far as the virtual centreline of the sail before stiffening up and going no further without a bang from a fist. (The sail shape and cam behaviour are very similar for both of the two masts I've tried rigging it on).

I have the SDM cams installed, no shims/spacers in though. Easily hitting the nominated downhaul settings. Any suggestions?

Thanks...Mark

My 2012 8m rotates like a wave sail on the recommended RDM mast. When I used a NP mast one of the cams was stiff but still ok.

The 490 is probably too stiff and I'm not sure what the bend curve of the North is. The HSM masts are a slight flex top so you may have the wrong flex on the mast.

May be an idea to try / borrow a HSM mast first to see if that solves the problem.

The NP masts were supposed be compatible to HSM but the sail feels much better on the HSM mast, and the skinny makes is breathe nicely.

Hi eckas,

I rig my 8m 2012 model with rdm 97 hot sails mast and rotation is perfect. As is the 5.5 2013 with 400 97 rdm hot sail mast, 6m 2012 model with ultra hot sails 430 mast (these masts are awesome). Other masts with the right curve might be okay but rotation may be compromised? Try spacers but maybe try a rdm to compare. Good luck. Will be worth it when you get
it right...

Thanks,

Carl.

Maybe there is too much pressure on the mast using an SDM as extra diameter takes up space in mast sleeve. Solution is either switch to RDM, or CAREFULLY cut away some of the material so that the cam sits further in. Use a sharp blade and a hard edge, try a small amounts until you get the desired tension.

The good news for all those Macho Men out there is the 2014 colours will be blue, orange and white.
