oh! what's happened there? Is that rust or a shear stress break? I have the same one as my spare so better check it.
Obviously the safety tendon didn't help you out there so hope it wasn't too far to swim.
Rusted the outer 2mm and then gave way. Pretty lucky it happened right at the end of my session when I was stepping off the board. I'm pretty sure that base would have to be 15+ years old. New one on the way in the post.
Any Townsville sailors out there? Just wondering if it's still reasonably safe to sail off Pallarenda, croc-wise?

Not too bad there! Need serious suiting up this time of year- plenty of boxies there at times.

Awesome seeing Green Island at it's best.
I worked on the Island in the mid nineties, spent many afternoon's sailing the reef flats.
Pure bliss!
Thanks for not putting music to the video like most.
It feels more real hearing the chatter of the board.![]()
Can everyone that uses the "Hay Point live Wind Report" please message Laurie at Seabreeze and ask him to fix it. I've messaged him twice already to no avail. It's been off the air for over a month.
Not a seabreeze problem Gordon. Hay Point decided not worth their while to fix the wind meter on the end of their jetty when it stopped working, according to Phil at least.
Well, I would have thought that it would be in BMA's best interest to fix it. I would have thought that it would be used to get ship's pilots on to the ships with the choppers, presumably using the data from the station on other platforms.
Perhaps everyone should be harassing our beloved BOM and demanding improvement to Mackay's wind-reporting data? Like, try putting wind-measuring equipment in exposed positions such as on South wall at the harbour, or maybe on top of the big golf ball, instead of somewhere over the brow of Mt Basset that reports wind strength and direction entirely different than reality?
I tried to stir them about this years ago, but their lame answer was that Mackay Airport is the official reading for Mackay area! We know how accurate that is! Somewhat better than Mt Basset, but inferior to Hay Point (when we had that data available).
Surely there must be better wind data measurements being recorded at Mackay Harbour and at Hay Point for use by the shipping? Failure to make such data available to the thousands of boaties forking out $$$ for rego in this region, as well as other water users, is a massive failing IMO.![]()
Not where you want it but a couple of blokes at work including myself decided we needed a weather station on Green Island
