Me too Mal! I'm glad everyone is having a great time but wish I was there! Thanks for the updates and photos Jeff and Morgs. Maybe next time...
Saturday - a big day ![]()
Early morning learners session with Jane on her Start
She went out even though the winds looked intimidating. Really it was ladies morning with all the beautiful girls in our lives out sharing the passion and joy of wind surfing
I went out on the BIC techno283 with 7,5 - however the wind decided to peak early
. Pete from Bribie got out a little earlier and had a great pre-breakfast session on his magic F2 early planing weapon.
I've found a new Early Planing weapon
janes Starboard Start
. See shortboard thread
As I went out I counted 12 of us out enjoying the wind and more joined us as the day developed.
When Jane came in on the learner board she started talking to some beach goers who showed an interest in windsurfing. They expressed a disappointment at not being able to hire gear.
So with some rudimentary instruction and Janes Start we have 2 new beginners out on the water - they were stoked
. Oh the benefit of youthful exuberance when picking up a new sport - mastering the basics very quickly. The START got a real workout today - 5 different riders in on morning![]()
Morgs son in law was getting the hang of windsurfing - upgrading from the small training sail to a 4.2 sail and making the most of the increased wind speed
I had the joy of a visit from friends who were keen to get back into windsurfing. Andrew and Janet have been dabbling a little with restarting - mostly only getting out once a year. Andrew is from the BIC Metal rock era. So a busy afternoon organising gear we had them out having a blast.
I so wanted it to work for them. The smiles and joy on Janet and Andrews faces at the end of the day was priceless :-)
I really enjoyed the afternoon session with calmer winds and settled chop. Best run I had was a race across the foreshore with Pete The joy of hearing your mate biting at your heals -slap- slap-slap and trying my hardest to wring a knot or two out of my gear to keep in front. The old fox finally passed me on the finish line - giving me that THUMBS UP I got you gesture as he went past. Fun times - great memories
Holiday coming to a close. Morgs and Pete packing up :-(. Sent some boards home with jane - that only leaves a few behind ;-)
I'm staying into next week as my mate Richard is coming down from Bundaberg to share the remaining wind
A fabulous day sailing with friends - windsurfing looked the activity todo today. I can say (biased - IMO) we dominated the landscape.
Cheers Jeff
Ps. Didn't get overtaken by the catamarans today :-)
Pack up day today for us :-(. Windsurfing holiday over again at funtastic Lake Cootharaba.
Yesterday I struggled on the Naish 180 - got very emotional but Bribie Pete gave me some nice encouraging words and from there I ended up getting the beast onto the plane for a short run and managed an 18 knots.
Had a fantastic week with the Improvers at the lake. Thanks Jeff and Peter de laet getting Hayden started. He really enjoyed his time on the water.
Anita also had a blast out there - looks like we have to buy another gps :-)
Jaye had a great holiday And managed some nice PB's
Windsurfing with great mates and family at the Lake is what it is all about. already planning our next holiday
??
Andrews post on Facebook after yesterday's session.....
Thanks you so much Jeff Irvin!! We were keen to come up while you and your mates were camped up there and try some of the "modern" gear. After a late start and some work getting in the way, we wondered if it was worth the long drive, but you were so kind quickly getting gear rigged up for us and sending us out for our best sailing session for over 20 years! We love Elanda Point, the wind was great, and man, you guys had such a massive range of windsurfing gear sprawled around the place it was a great opportunity! Those modern sails are so nice. Back in the day, I would never have been able to handle a 7.5m sail in that wind, but the Ezzy Lion was so tractable. Janet was in her element blasting back and forth for ages. She spent most of her time on the Metal Rock and didn't really adjust to the Techno. I spent ages on the Techno and when I swapped back to the Metal Rock, I was really impressed with it despite its age. We both still think it's a brilliant fast slalom board for the lake conditions - perhaps a little too hard railed in the Redcliffe chop however. It's a very long time since I've been fast on a board and I was amazed how all the memory is still there, even if I couldn't pull off many jibes and had a few spectacular crashes. We have blisters on top of our toes (those cheap Amart shoes really rub when in the footstraps!) but came home very happy and keen to get ourselves some better sails and a second board. Thanks for your enthusiasm - also thanks to Pete for his help.
Well, I got myself signed up on the Seabreeze forum and it didn't take me long to find you Jeff! And a surprise to find that you've already made us famous!!
Yes, it was great to suss out your gear recently. Janet's passion for sailboarding has never waned but I have cruelly resisted her pleas for years (pulling out our ever-deteriorating gear was a most unpleasant experience). But sailing with you guys the other day, and more importantly the experience of having both of us out there blasting back and forth together was a good thing. For too long I have indulged selfish pursuits that my wife wisely has no interest in (RC gliders, dirt bikes ...) So although I've held out for a long time, you have now cracked me and I have been hunting for replacement gear to get both of us out sailing again! I'm now wasting all my spare time trying to understand all the new bits of gear, and what's compatible with what.
I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw you guys in the pictures. So cool! Janet is smiling ear to ear. I didn't know she used to sail with you. RESPECT! Got to catch up with you guys for a sail one day!

Nothing wrong with the BIC Metal Rock era, If Andrew wants to have a go on mine to get it wet again, he is more than welcome to
