Definitely going to Bongaree about 7:30ish. I'm betting on a 12 knot southerly which I reckon will dye before predicted as usual. Perfect to try my 52cm Tectonics Raptor with 8.5
Hopefully I'll be delighted. If anything it will be absolutely beautiful on the race board (which I'll be sailing when it dye's as well). That's gotta be great way to spend a half a day.![]()
Won't have that much fun in one day. Just hope to see how light a wind I can plane in on that one.
If I get a chance I might be able to try the big weed fin's out, but I'm guessing if I'm dial'd in, I won't want to stop for that.
Not a great day for wind, but did have some run's particularly at the end when the wind started coming in and I had to go home for school pickup.
The fin's are great. Spent the most time on the Weed Deemon and very impressed, though I really wanted to stay longer to do some tuning. I need to pull the mast track back a lot I think, and more down-haul to lift the nose.
Can't wait to have another go because it has plenty of drive, doesn't spin out, and powers through the lull's, and feel's like it will be faster. The Raptor 52cm was awesome, although I had only limited time on it and also tuning needed. As was marketed, it had great early planing, trim was noticeably different (again - more tuning needed), and amazing directional stability is the best way I can think to explain it. There is something about it that I can't wait to explore properly. Unfortunately no sailing for me until after the weekend now, so I guess that was all just a tease, so far.![]()
Yeah mate, would I be right saying lift it to put harness lines between your feet, pull the mast track back a little, and crank the downhaul more to lift the nose? I have absolutely no experience what so ever with weed fin's. I see you ripping around on yours, and I'm determined to be free from weed, and shallow water when advantageous. There must be a difference between these fin's and delta's, being that these fin's really do put the center of lateral resistance further aft. I can tell these fin's are obviously great and I can't wait to have a proper go at tuning on them. Let me know if I'm on the right track.
I don't know what I hate more Darren, weed or weed fins?
The breeze started to sneak up here today after lunch so I went down to Phillip Street for a look and it was WindSUP Wonderland. 10-15 straight onshore and a nice high tide. Ran down along the beach into the river mouth and then worked my way back up over the other side of Phillip Street up past the environmental park to the end of Bayside Drive and then back again. Nice day on the water with a few little bay swells to surf along on the big BIC.

Any thought's Wade? Does this sound about right to you? Or anyone?
The guys on the speed forum would be worth a try mate.

Did you get it planing?
Yep, they just glide along so effortlessly Pete and sneak onto the plane in the gusts, I was only using that 6.1m wave sail too. Lots of fun and best of all they go nice and shallow with only a 10 inch fin and a kicked back centreboard. I'm too used to my short board though, I tack and then look for the non-existent straps with my feet
. I'm going back down for another go tomorrow I reckon, that was too much fun.
Slight sea breeze and a high tide this arvo so went down to Phillip Street again for a cruise on the windSUP. Not as much wind today with it only 5-10 so I headed down to the river mouth not realising how much north was in it and discovering I'd strayed a long way downwind. Heaps of tacking got me back to the car and it was a very pleasant sunday arvo session. Looks like Sandstone will be very good for the next few days so I'll be a good kid and get my work done so the boss will let me sail.
Went for a sail today at Sandstone Point lots of mullet in the water and I saw a massive shark pretty sure it was a tiger. It was within a metre of my board. I nearly ran it over then Brad and me got out of there as soon as possible. I won't be seiling there the rest of the week. Hopefully the mullet move on and so does the shark.
Yeah, what an inconvenience. Worked around the house all weekend, then burned all my accumulated brownie points to get the Finance Minister to flick her meeting so I could try out my latest purchase this afternoon. Worked through lunch in the hope of getting away early(didn't happen anyway). Then as I chuck one last upwind gybe to head outside the white marker at the end of the rocks, I hear Adam yelling something at me.
Shark! he says, as big as my sail he says, I'm heading in he says. Poo, I says and followed him in.
Oh well, at least I got it wet.
Back to cleaning the garage, got to get the points back up before the weekend.
Where's Jeff when you need a decoy to keep the noah's from eating you? He spends heaps of time in the water in his all black, full body seal costume, surely they'd get distracted and eat him instead of trying to catch the rest of us ![]()

Don't mind standing in the water as a decoy - hope I don't end up floating in the water!
Trying not to have a heart attack ,,, few niggles getting checked out...

I'm ok - but a little worried
chers Jeff
All the best Jeff, I'm sure they'll have you re-booted and back in the game and there's nothing to worry about ![]()
Hi Jeff,
Take it easy. No excitement, like buying another new board or sail. We hope you get well soon.
By the way, I finally got the Phantom 320. I was going to attach the photo, but I didn't want you to
get too worked up.
All the best mate.
Look like the mullet have moved on from Sandstone came down for a look hope John's out sailing. Hopefully enough wind for tomorrow arvo. Hope you get better soon Jeff.
Should be dead south. I'm thinking both sides of the low tide tomorrow from Bongaree.
Clean wind right at the shoreline.
I'd like to think maybe I can see our striped friend coming in the clear shallow water.
Did a heap of moss like weed float in to Sandstone Point for the mullet yesterday?
Not sure there was no weed just dirty water from the rain on the weekend. I won't be able to sail till late arvo because of work.
Hey Darren, the wind has been nothing like the Brisbane seabreeze arrows and everything like the BOM model this week.

Sorry Dag.
Been away for a bit.
I always run mast back as far as I can then just hold on.
I think you have to be a bit lighter on the rear foot.
