Gunna try a new spot tomorrow on the Macleay River if it's over 20 knots. Under that I'll hit Trial Bay. I'm expecting it to be pretty hectic as it's already 15 knots at 10 pm. See what tommorw brings I guess.

Saturday I'll head down to Queens Lake with the crew.

Is there a BOM weather station that's a good indicator for wind speed at Canton in a southerly?

Norah Head is obviously the closest one - few k's directly east. In my experience it reads about 5 - 10 knots above Canton conditions in a S - SE, a little less if it is S - SSW.Thats the closest and most representative I have ever found. The stronger the wind, the smller the difference. Given its gusting to 40 knots at Norah Head, that means a solid 30 - 35 knot gusts at Canton in my estimation.

Hard work watching today from the recovery of a knee op.....

Its blowing:

42 knots at Kurnell
48 knots at Lucas Hgts
39 knots at the airport
38 knots in the harbour.

Raftcrew spot on the money from what the locals tell.
SSW, buggers!!!!!!!!!!

SB saying Cronulla 47 gust
Kurnell 51 knot gust
Airport 45 knot gust
Harbour 46 knot gust.

sadly stuck in the office all weekend with too much work on my hands. Just a quick look at Coastalwatch cams and Makahaa / Newport looked pretty big. Best, the swell hasn't even peaked yet. I think Dolls Point should be good on a low tide tomorrow morning. That's assuming there is enough wind. Sunday could be even better with the swell swinging around to the East.

wooo Hoooo

What a sesh. Fully lit at times on Hellcat 6.7, and at times way overpowered (steady 20, but up to 25kn). Just kept getting stronger, only had an hour to sail because of work anyway so couldnt be bothered changing down - but a 5.7 would have been the sweet spot for some PBs behind the mudbank.

Looked like it was way windier down south - hope you got some PBs down there boys and girls

Tomorrow is another (windy) day, and I have the whole day eeeewwwwwwwwww!!!!! Hope you all get a good sail

Canton whoo hoo! I believe those readings.
On the way down I was thinking " I'm getting too old for this.. #$$ scared ****less. It's time to become a couch potato...
Started out with 4.2m & 78ltre board and scary in the gusts but ok ..It came in big time so I walked it in and put on the 3.2m.I've always hated that sail as its a 90's vintage that doesn't twist off with a turban top and usually very twitchy.
Went out & had a superb 1st run! Ideal I could even take my hand off the boom to wave.. Wish it had stayed like that a bit longer I would have loved to try for some jumps..
Then the boom fell down the mast and I had to fix it up out in the water + redo the outhaul..
Then survival..gusts were #@$ scary! Hanging right down near the water it felt like the wind was going to get under the board & flip us down wind. Every monster gust when it got deadly I dismounted for safety. Just fell off the back & let the board & rig go.

Then the rain came in and I stood back to it in icey water as the wind was too strong to risk sailing..It was flipping the board over as I held it. Must have been strong as everyone on the shore was siting holding onto their gear!
Had a few fun but on the edge runs when the lulls came in a bit..that little sail is ideal in about 30-33kts consistent..
Happy ..I survived I can still do it.. even if I only held on for grim death whereas back in the 90's I would have been jumping everything in sight..
Even did a planing gybe with the little board and I've only sailed it about 6hrs..
1st time I've seen Greg not able to go out. Ian went great stayed out with his 5m!
Someone said new benchmark - if Sue can't sail it with the 3.2m it's too windy to sail! Should have given the 3.2m to one of the guys as it would have been good for someone about 80kgs.. Still buzzing.. Nothing like overcoming your fears to make you feel good & alive..insert bouncing hyper smilie..
Forgot to mention when I was rigging the 3.2m someone said - Isn't that cute.. 2 sails have had a little baby'...

I had an awesome sail at Dolls Point but was hanging on, really overpowered on my 4.2 and 69 litre board.
With the odd squall and bit of spindrift coming through
Was great to dust off the cobbwebs and get back out there!!

Thanks for saving my screwdriver mate. With that wind, it would have probably ended up in Newcastle.... (it was under the wheel of the car that occupied the spot before you, and my mate forgot to take it before driving out)

Don't use your metric threads as you'll strip the the threads. It's the US / UK thread ( can't remember the name) and you can pick them up in bunnings.

At least you got to try the new speed board..looked good!
2 casualties yesterday..1 board + 1 sail went flying across the road early in the day.. It was a 2 man effort to unrig safely - 1 to hold onto bits & pieces while the other unrigged..Love to get there today the 3.2m would be ideal but not sure.. Have fun!

They should be UNF coarse I think. You may have slightly crossed the thread when you used the wrong bolts so it may need a bit of coaxing. If you look at your metric bolts and compare, the US bolts look at bit coarser.

I may be heading to canton Tommorow. If you're there come and see me I have a range of bolts in my kit bag. I'll be in the Pack and Send Balmain van.

Do they have the standard brass inserts? if so they're easy to get out. Just knock them out with a screwdriver and replace them with metrics, or in the interim, borrow some from your other fins.

Nothing worse than having a new toys and not being able to use them!
