I got down to gerroa about 430, it wasn't too bad with a few good sized waves coming through. The wind was weird though, super gusty (even by gerroa standards) and all over the place. By 6 it had gone basically dead offshore.
Sailed yesterday at Gerroa. It was waist to shoulder on the beach and quite gusty. I went to the bombie with 3/4 to mast high sets and super sucky. If your down there and see the bombie breaking, you should at least try out there. The wind on the beach was real north (gusty as) but the bombie had good consistent wind. I had a good 45 minutes by myself. Went back to the beach, average, then back out for another half hour.
Not sure why but I was the only one taking advantage of it. Now I don't want everyone to come out because it can get crowded quick but another couple out would make you feel a little safer if you go down hard and break gear.
Yeah I saw you head out there whyner and was going to follow you out but didn't for some reason. I've sailed out there a few times of this season and it did look good. No one has ever followed me out there either haha.
Are there 2 bombies at Gerroa? There's the one near the point but the google earth image shows some strange wave action radiating from
34deg 47' 23.69"
150deg 48' 54.44"
Do waves ever break there? Anybody sailed out there? It's 1.8 km off the beach
It is a bit of a worry how far you'd have to drift if you broke down in a noreaster, but bommie #2 is directly SW of bommie no.1, so, unless you can make your way upwind to the point - #2 is on the way home and so closer to the beach.
Thinking about it that way makes me more inclined to enter the co-ordinates into my gps and go out to check out the swell. Not on a big day, I'm not that much of a wavesailor, just a normal Gerroa low wave day.
I don't think that radar image is actually gerroa because you can see swell lines. That doesn't happen at gerroa. ![]()
I've seen that bommie break every now and then but it has to be big swell and a lowish tide. It doesn't look like anywhere near as good a wave as the other bommie though so i've never checked it out. That it it's a LONG way out, or seems that way.
