Handicaps don't give you a head start they just try & even out the playing field. It doesn't really worry me that much but it would be nice to be able to contribute a few jelly beans to the team a year..I don't see a problem with a bit of friendly rivalry - all in fun!
sue your in the wrong team for jelly beans , you have 12 registered AUS sailors in that team
heres what you do , you only need two members per team , so you register a team called (jellybeans) and keep it at that ,and
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO MOOOOOOOOOOOOOORE members ,just keep it simple ![]()
I know..
No hope with Byron , Hugh , gre g and the others.. I did get some one time - I was the only one that sailed that week!
Nah.. I like the team thingy I don't want to start another..
Thanks Keef. An all girls team of two. Jelly beans galore and then we can argue for a team handicap for only having two members, both being women, being based in northern NSW where the average sail size is 7.5, and the total team weight being under 150kg. Sounds like a plan ![]()

Is it possible to know how the current points system is worked out?
Cheers
Marty
The literal answer to that is yes, but I guess what you really want is it explained?
basically your best score in every division ranks you against everybody else, your overall points is the sum of your ranking positions in each category.
Modifies by the year, age, place, team etc filters.
So the best possible score is 6, 1st in every division.
Thanks for the answer. So how is this worked into your team score? Sorry to be a pest but just trying to understand the system as to how a team benifits from those not as fast.
Would it be an advantage for a bonus point to be awarded for a PB in each category. This may help those that are competing against themselves to strive for more (which helps the team score too I assume). This would benifit those that will never see a jellybean.
Don't yell at me as it's just a suggestion after reading the posts above.
Cheers

I like the idea of a bonus points for a PB. The point would need to be subtracted from the team score.
It would be a way that new team members and the less speedy could be rewarded for effort and contribute to the team in a tangible way.
It would need to be less than a full point for a PB though, maybe 0.1? - otherwise signing up a newbie and having them come in with a dozen PB's in the first week could really skew the competition.

Totally agree and I like the idea of rewarding those that keep pushing themselves. This helps everyone from kid's, new people, your everyday person and even the fastest guys in the country strive for new PB's to help their team. I know you are typically only competing against yourself but I'll probably never see a Jellybean or contribute to my team score but will always be pushing for a PB so this would help my team out.
I know there is nothing broken with the current system and it works great but something like this could encourage everyone to help out their team even if they are not the quickest.
