Local wa sailor did 40knot Nm in Albany last yr. not just the pros
Yep. Let's get a bit of perspective here. ![]()
I don't really agree that comparing foiling to flat water speed sailing gives any sense of perspective. They are completely different things.
Most foilers struggle to reach 25 kts, 30 is insane. If you told me 2 years ago that people would be approaching 40, then I simply would not of believed it.
I know personally dozens of people who have done 40kts on a fin, I don't know a single person who has done 30kts on a foil.
Maybe more in the realm of 100KMH on a fin.
Now THATS insane! ![]()
Foiling still developing. It took about 10 years before Fred cracked 30 knots! It took around 35 years before any significant number of windsurfers started breaking 40 knots with any regularity, and probably another 10 before a very select few joined the 50 club. ![]()

Yeh, you've got to allow for the home ground advantage. Here's a comparison in sort of neutral territory. Super flat in the slapper's favour but it's only 20 knots to the foiler's favour. Slapper has more speed in patches but foiler wins out in the gybes.

Must be just NSW that suffers from slow water.
