If you look to the bottom left of the rock you'll see a small whitish area, that's where the fin hit, and the hull of the board hit the protruding area, there is no tide safe enough to get over this!!!

well ive not sailed there yet but i am hoping to soon... can someone put up an image showing the danger zones cos at the moment all i know is there is a rock in that body of water- will be like finding a needle ion a haystack.. in fact just finding the bloody boat ramp was a challenge in itself!
I've just had a look at Hardies data and worked out how far his freckle flew

I reckon the Big fella flew approximately 40m from impact to impact. It was a good one
Thanks Elmo that gives us a good idea of where it is, out from the green roofed hootchie. In fact this seems to be where most of the rocks/reef is concentrated, from there up to about 500m out. Be nice to measure how far out Claude's rock is, think it's almost a continuation of that line.
For reference here's a similar picture, I was slogging in about 5 knots when I hit this one:
(look for the track that stops and then goes back the other way)
The other lines are doing Hardies run, well outside the PVC posts.
When I had a look, it was a complete minefield of rocks.
Here's another one from Friday, tide was low, and I was going for my run just before the last pipe, if you stay close to the pipe you cam miss Claude's rock, some of my runs ended up heading straight for it, so my tracks either abort or go either side of it.
So I fairly confident the end of the ruler is where the it is. I had the mouse pointer over that spot, so the coordinates at the bottom are for that rock/reef.
So you can see that light patch where Neb's and hardies impacts are, between there and my mark are rocks at various depths, most are OK at high tide with a 20cm fin when planning. But the one hardie hit is going to be a danger at any tide.
(Edit) just had a close look at the pic, and there's a light spot a bit to the right of my mark, this is probably it, cause where I've marked looks fairly dark, (seaweed).

Looks like you sailed right over it.. probably at close to 40.
Maybe the tide was 20-30cm higher then but still it is an area worth avoiding.
I hope you guys are marking it clearly as a no go area.
This is scary. This session was on the 29.08.08. looks like i was sailing over the top of it all day. Must have been a higher tide
Spent some time walking around this area on Sunday at a lowish tide ( hence the photo of the rock). There are many rocks in this area spread across an area dozens of metres west to east and several metres north to south.
I believe it is luck that results in missing rocks in this area not just high tide.
gggeh Bundy and Bender, look like you are lucky fellas when I see the tracks

In the other hand, Claude, Nebb, and Hards got them, look the same area to me, look like Nebb and Hards hit the same rock, or very close
If you Mobsters are trying to scare off us Northerners from venturing south to sail Hardies it's working! 
Either that or just stick to the Channel (didn't seem to slow Slowie down any when he was there for the presentation!).
It's just a common sense approach which is needed.
All of us locals KNOW not to go down there on a mid to low tide.
We chose to forget what we have seen down there when we had the super low spring tides and pegged out the reef lines.
Hardie gave us a very graphic example of what could go wrong when we choose to ignore our own recommendations, thankfully the only thing injured was his baby and the crab he landed on.
All we do now is we do what we say rather than just play lip service to it.
I've crashed into the eastern sandbar at Safety bay, and the Sand bar at Pt Grey. a number of people have hit the rocks at Pt Walter.
Life's as hazardous as we want to make it.
I think pvc pipe in concrete buckets is better than pipe over star pickets, in some cases the warning can be more dangerous than the rock

definetly not 36knots but just as dangerous!! commonly referred to as "hitting the bricks" and "going through the cheese grater" a reference to the side stays and the like the crew fly through when being catapaulted!!

its a similar situation as to what i am guessing hardy faced....they knew they where in danger as you can see them luffing the kite desperately trying to gain some distance to windward but they kept going hoping like mad they where clear of the hazard below

Is there some way we can mark this rock with a pole/post of some sort.
I don't know the logistics and how you bury it in the sand/limestone but super low tide and a bunch of smart people should be able to do something
i rekon the pile of broken fins around it will eventually grow to the point where it will break the surface and slowly form in to island!
personally i believe it is a myth that there is a rock there
i think its a bit of propaganda started by the crab munchers to scare away the city hordes!
why dont u swim out there with a sledgehammer
if that dosent work use a hilti drill and from a boat drill a 8 large deep holes into the area surrounding it place explosives around it like a v8 engine block.place underwater mining grade explosives (stolen)"Power Gel into it and light it up while having excess of 12 beers now ur ****ty rock will be spread out over about half a kilkometre
or steal a flag from ur golf course and mark it mabe be easier and u wont get arrested for possesion of explosives in a public place by anti terrorist responce group
