There has been nearly 200mm of rain in the Lake George catchment over the last month. Is this have any effect on the water levels in the lake?

Is that from water starting in the lake?

No, that's what happens when you drink the water at Lake George.

Stuffed what????

The Middle Lake weather and water monitoring station is out of service again, probably because it is sitting in the dry mud.

Here is the plot from the Lake George Big Lake monitoring station. This shows there has been a rise in water level but it appears to still be below the levels we need to sail the Middle Lake.

Even if the middle Lake does get water in it there will be no weed, what I guess it would look like pic from 2009, the spit would be the best spot for flat water for the time being.

Good info. give that the Middle Lake was primo in 2012, it may be 3-4years to get the weed back to top condition.

First pic is not LG,

Second pic was 2008. I am guessing this was when the lake filled up from low level again.

In 2012, LG was full of weed and perfectly flat for at least a few summer months. Ditto in '13. seems OK in '14 but weed had died back in '15. '16, it was dry.

I don't think visitors from interstate has any influence on the state of the weed growth at all. It's all to do with water and salinity levels.

Just as many PBs to be had a in local waters. Might not blow as often here in NSW, but there's just as much potential for top numbers if you're on your game. Personally I think it's good to see everyone having to make the most of their own state's venues to get scores this year. 2016 is shaping up to be an interesting year with a level playing field

ok try again , heres another pic I think I seen from a video posted on seabreeze maybe 2012/2013 clear water and weed with the water levels lower than when I was there in febuary 2015, after that post the place was in festered with sailboarders like a virus , tas, vic, cairns,wa, boogie c3 made the sweed that never got into production, mal falunkner made some special mud boots with holes to cope with the mud, sboardcrazy posted feb 2015 how to do a back slide as you couldn't beach start in the mud , there was a rock garden that you couldn't identify in 30cm of water so no wonder the weed died

I called the Beachport visitor information centre this morning and the lady confirmed that the lake entrance has been dug out a couple of weeks ago and water was flowing under the bridge.

She also mentioned that they had had a LOT of rain lately. Quote: "There is water everywhere"!

I'm quite sure they open it on a regular basis whenever they get a higher than normal tide over winter

The spit is a bit gustier but I'll take anything to get onto some flat water, video sailing Big lake off the spit

Great video Choco, thanks for posting. I haven't seen that one before. So that is sailing on the western side (the Robe siede) of the spit? What year was that? The water always seemed deeper over there but I am no doubt wrong.

Yes, that is on the north-western side of the spit between the big lake and middle lake. The spit is quite low for a few hundred meters and the SE wind is quite clean, but then has some bushes that tend to block the wind to an increasing degree as you sail south.

When the lake is high it is said to be possible to sail quite close to the spit. As the level drops you must sail further out as it appears in this video, but the water is still flat enough to crack 40 knots if the wind it there.

When it drops further it gets a bit sketchy as the slope of the bottom decreases and one is always tempted to get closer in for the flatter water. Those Primbe sailors would love it! But that is about the time the middle lakes get to about the best level when the weed is good.

When I sailed the spit in Jan 2013, there was not any significant weed in the big lake next to the spit, but in the gap where the middle lake joins, and in the bay to the east there was some nice weed banks making for a pretty good NM run (Jimbobs Mile).
