If it was me asking this question I would take Sailquick and Matthew's advice without hesitation. Few sailors understand these devices better.
Less and unknown still have the exact same meanings they always do linking Wikipedia articles doesn't change the meanings of words . Its not of lower capability it does the exact same thing but costs heaps less shows a less on the screen but also is heaps smaller so cant complain . We're not going for world records here .
....
yeah i used a android app when my gt31 broke i dont think it was to bad really but i have a feeling it robbed the 2 second times a bit or maybe the ka72 software is more aggressive on those file types ? But i have the canmore now and its accurate , is there going to people complaining about canmores being used in gpstc ? . About the phone in corners isnt that where there would be less of a difference between them all as if there all logging at 1 second intervals and averaged over a distance of 500m that is where a position based reading would show less difference to a doppler one isnt it ?
I'm not sure if you are deliberately being obtuse or not, as messaging can lose some context ... so I'll keep it simple:
- The Canmore is a fine device if you just want to go sailing with yourself / your friends.
- Track-points are about *2 orders* of magnitude worse in error.
- There isn't any complaint for using just about any GPS with approximate accuracy in any of the websites.... there is a specific requirement for specific GPS devices if you want to go for world records. The general consensus is to recommend the GT31 as it has a good price/performance ratio [ the Canmore hasn't lived up to that ].
- The GPS in a phone is crap for windsurfing, as it has implementation requirements that at odds with what we want from windsurfing (eg: they implement a lot of "averaging")
- The 1-second vs 500m discussion has taken place many years ago - if you want to know about it, start a seperate thread.
- Since you dont know whether it is accurate or not, you cannot really even compare it to your own speeds from a previous session (aka: completely ignoring any "world record" stuff)... ie: it wont give you any real confidence that your new speed is likely to be faster than your own speed.
Impressive stuff..... I guess it all just highlights the frustration of the Gt31, accurate it maybe, but outdated in regards of all other features...
Hope what ever the new tool is, that it can incorporate some of the amazing tech stuff that is out there these day... It's been a long time now since the announcement of the GT31 coming to an end...hopefully there will be a 'few' good options soon.
I feel sorry for the programmers that have to sort it all out when it happens...![]()
