Perhaps more over 70's would post and it might even encourage them to continue sailing in the GPSTC comp.
I know a lot of them are foiling so it might also be time to have a separate foil division in GPSTC too.

i used the selective GPSTC rankings to determine the following:

70 and over = 32 sailors

75 and over = 9
Of these:
3 are 75
3 are 77
1 is 78
1 is 81
1 is 82

Well done to all these sailors and we hope to see you sailing for many years to come.

Nah, this is good enough.
My 2 hrs is the worst case scenario, sometimes I can do 4 or 5. depends what I've had to drink and the temperature. Also at the moment it's not all bad, my back and hip problem, means if I spend more than a few hours in any one position means I can hardly walk in the morning. I can't sleep on my back in our bed, but I get a good few hours sleep on my recliner rocker on my back. So when I get woken for a pee I also change where I'm sleeping. This way I can walk in the morning. If I cure my nightly visits to the loo that could change.

The same people that would not even consider that 13 year olds competing in the same category as 18 year olds was not exactly fair. now want a special category for themselves
70 yo's and 80 yo's are much closer in body type than 13's to 18 year olds.

I recall you lot saying "if it aint broke don't fix it"

Easy enough to go fast and jibe well.
Much harder to land big jumps repeatedly in one session.

Blowing your own trumpet must be an American thing. Their outgoing President is a champion at it.

As I recall, Robbie won a World Championship at 14!

And the catagory is actually 13-17 YO. And that is by far the narrowest age range (6 years) listed.

Also, the 'competition' is not individual, it is all about teams. GPS-Team Challenge. The other is just for personal interest.

Body type variations? Rubbish. You should see a pic of me standing next to the Tonster! There are extreme differences in every age group. Edit: Opps, I just realised that the Tonester is in a Younger age group. Boombuster is a better example.

"want a special category for themselves" = Pot calling the Kettle Black

If you still have the flexibility to blow your own trumpet then why not?

Ah, the stupid kids!
When they get as old as us, they'll be blowing the trumpet also....it's a wonder we still can almost so what we did 65 years ago....
Isn't this thread ALL ABOUT blowing that trumpet?
Stupid kids!

I entered at 13, was a good challenge for myself to improve. Always saw it more so as 'mini battles' with the next person up the rankings. Heck I was probably only 45kg at 13yrs. Now only 73kg. It's all possible with the right kit, right place right time and even some luck at times. All good fun at the end of the day after a great session with mates sharing the stoke

Ok, you are Decrepit.
I'm only injured, aged, arthritis'ed, have 11 pins in my legs, 3 in my fingers, need to go to the bathroom 3 times before leaving the house, and never sleep longer than 4 hours because I have to pee.

I'm about the same, but it's now down to 2hrs between pees, (not a huge problem, but the smelly wetsuit can be embarrassing), but I have no steel in me, (yet fingers crossed)

I think the over 70,s need their own team....The Urinators..... My brother is a urologist, Doctor Love the dick doctor....can give you his number

I think an over 70s division is a good idea ....respect to you guys and hopefully I am still fanging around in 8 years when I can join The Urinators.

I agree, would be the best thing for GPS, there are some really great sailors over the age of 70, i have got 5 mouths to go before i turn 70 so bring it on.

At the Event Site in Hood River you see more gray hair than any other color. Boomers rule!!

Well, at least pre-covid you did. I can't vouch for 2020 since I did not go there once this year. Social distancing means I windfoiled mostly by myself out in the remote desert spots in the far east gorge. No, I didn't wear a mask on the water.

Sorry to barge into your little exclusive group.
Relevance?
70 year olds can still sail fast, most have more time to practice, some have money for newer gear.....than other age groups.
Jumping relevance?
Most 70'ers still can sail pretty well if they stay on and atop the water. No handicap at all.

Apology accepted.

You are welcome to join the GPSTC BTW, just find a USA team to join, or start one with all your sailing buddies, and show is your speed.

Would it be a problem to be a part of a group in another country?

I believe it's acceptable if there's no available team in your home country.

"Immortals" doesn't leave a lot of room for those entering their 80's. What about "Veterans" and "Grand Veterans"? Or "Grand Legend" and "Veteran".?
