Apologies first as I try not to be involved in any decision making for the GPSTC. I just want to make a suggestion and see if there is wide consensus on this idea?

I feel its unfair for 70 year olds to be categorized/competing with 60 yo's.

Anyone windsurfing competitively in their 60's is a true Legend, anyone windsurfing competitively in their 70's is the definition of an immortal.

Do people support the category of "Immortals" for over 70's in the GPSTC?

The BIG question here is, if Nebs has the time to make any changes.
I'm sure most of you know how long we've been waiting for the last lot of changes

Easy enough to go fast and jibe well.
Much harder to land big jumps repeatedly in one session.

You don't participate in the GPSTC so why comment?

The GPSTC does not have a catagory for 'jumps', or how many jumps you can do in a session so what is the relevance of your comment?

With the rapidly ageing demographics of the GPSTC, an over 70 age group makes sense.

That's an angle I hadn't thought of.
I was thinking it was a bit unfair, that when Herby bought this up about 10 years ago he was basically ignored. It wasn't until the campaign for fairer junior divisions, that we got the age filters. From memory, at the time Nebs thought adding more divisions to the site was too hard.

Maybe we can leave this one for the over 80s, it follows on nicely from immortals

Sorry to barge into your little exclusive group.
Relevance?
70 year olds can still sail fast, most have more time to practice, some have money for newer gear.....than other age groups.
Jumping relevance?
Most 70'ers still can sail pretty well if they stay on and atop the water. No handicap at all.

Lee, did you recently get shown up by an over 70 year old or something? you seem to be very put out about something that has no relevance to you at all.

Great idea, we should do this to show appreciation and respect to the SUPER legends, 70 and over, I sail with a Fox in that bracket and he regularly kicks the butt of many younger people, particularly distance, speed, and alphas, even when it's freezing cold.
Hope to be sailing in this category myself one day

Apology accepted.

You are welcome to join the GPSTC BTW, just find a USA team to join, or start one with all your sailing buddies, and show is your speed.

Lee, the relevance for the GPSTC, is that it's not just about sailing fast. (and you are correct, I had a PB nautical mile this year)
Endurance is a big part of it, especially with the hour and distance divisions. Age has a big bearing on this. In my late 60s I did over 300km in about 10/12hrs, now in mid 70s I'm struggling to do 100kms. Similar story with the hour, high 24kts in late 60s this year could only manage a 21.

Ok, you are Decrepit.
I'm only injured, aged, arthritis'ed, have 11 pins in my legs, 3 in my fingers, need to go to the bathroom 3 times before leaving the house, and never sleep longer than 4 hours because I have to pee.

It's by no means exclusive or little, anybody can join a team, all you need is an approved GPS. Currently there are over 1700 members worldwide

I'm about the same, but it's now down to 2hrs between pees, (not a huge problem, but the smelly wetsuit can be embarrassing), but I have no steel in me, (yet fingers crossed)

How do you get a good night's sleep?
I've been wearing thick wetsuits since 1965, so while I can, it's really hard to pee in the wetsuit. Maybe twice a year.....yuuuck.

And I'm nearly 72 as well and I can land jumps (little ones) all day if I have to. I've been practicing since 1977. After 47 Ironman events I've returned to slalom this year and would love a 70-75 age group like they have in IM triathlon. In fact triathlon goes up to 85-95 nowadays. I can manage 56kmh on a good day, on a board and gybe OK and that's with a history of spinal fusion, 2 collapsed lungs, asthma, 7 broken ribs and a pacemaker! So, let's go!

It is already possible to search GPSTC for rankings by age.
Below are the rankings for 2020 for over 70 year olds.
It would only be a couple of lines of code to make this a preset option.
I looked at over 80, but there are no sessions posted this year.

35 NM Decrepit! are you sure you are over 70?

Mike - I had a similar problem at night (Nocturia) - making sleep a misery.
After a lot of drug trial and error (on doctor's advice) I've successfully been using Minirin for a year.
Gone from average 6 to 1 or 0 pees a night. Most effective drug I've ever used by far. It's not cheap.
Worth discussing with your doctor maybe
