weeeeeeeeeeellllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll, seems a bit of tweaking is still necessary. I jumped the gun earlier, sorry if I gave false hopes.
I think locosys want to make sure it's as good as it possibly can be before releasing it.
As Decrepit has indicated, testing continues. However, the new functionality works really well.
This functionality includes:
1) 4 speed genie screens that shows both the latest run compared to the top result for the session for the disciplines of your choice. I've set my trial version with max speed, 2 sec, 10 sec and @500
2) The 5th speed genie screen is session distance, which can be displayed in either kms or Nm independent to the unit chosen for speed disciplines.
3) Display by button touch of your top 5 x 10sec speeds and average in small and large font format
4) Display by button touch of your top results in all disciplines in both small and large font format
5) The ability to use the timer and stop watch while in GPS mode
A new version of the trial firmware was issued today with
1) Streamlined delete function
2) Improved "TIMER" time up indication of buzzer plus reversed screen colour to get users' attention .
3) Optimized LCM screen redraw driver
The trial firmware times out on 30/6/17 and hence is not permanent and will have to be replaced with a formal public release.

Glad you got to try it John, it arrived a bit too late for me to take it to Albany. But I think we have wind here a bit later in the week.

Mike,
A couple of great sessions in Albany. I've got to get over to the west and try some of your special places.
I haven't tried the latest upgrade. It only arrived today. I'm planning to try it tomorrow afternoon after work.

Thanks Mike really enjoying the new software and thanks Matt D. Wearing Gw60 on wrist and compares well with GT31. Alpha is very accurate. So good. Unfortunately between me and family don't have windows and can not upload to Ka72. Tried to upload firmware and readers but I'm just a roofer. No luck. Ive downloaded all from website but i must be doing something wrong. Still loving the info on location with Gw-60 pages![]()

So are you saying you only have a Mac?
If so there's two options, use a windows emulator and the GW60 utility with the watch in "com" mode.
Or put the Watch in "UMS" mode, plug it into computer, use the adjust and up down buttons to scroll to "TO USB
MSC", then press the adjust button. the watchshould then show a connection to computer icon, and you should see a "GPSLOG.SBP" file come up on your desktop.

Thanks so much Mike finally able to upload. Legend!!! Thankyou
For a while it was available to every body, with a request for feedback, those who gave feedback got the updates, and the first version's link became inactive. So it seems you had to get in early.
The public release of the updated firmware is up to Locosys. It will happen when they thinks it's ready. June is only when the trial firmware expires.
Hello,
What is wrong as my GW60 doesn?t show Top Speed, AVG speed? It just shows current speed. Also today it reset distance itself...I was looking 2 days ago how to reset distance but couldn?t find it how to do it but then it happened today as it reset itself - strange isn?t it?
It ever showed AVG speed and top speeds, but some times ago - few weeks ago...
Firmware is: OG1206A
Thanks and cheers, TM

Sounds like you've set the speed genie tripping point too high. you won't get speed genie until you exceed the preset speed.
With early firmware, distance display is taken directly from the data logger, it doesn't reset until you delete the log file

Cool! Not impatient, just anxious. Really love the GW-60 and the firmware that's coming looks like it makes it soo much better again. Pretty rare to see a manufacturer/distributor work so closely with the windsurfing community to develop this product.

I have set it at 0 knot...
Thanks and cheeers

Hi,

Well that's novel, and I'm not sure it will work. I think you have to go under the set speed before speed genie does it's calculations.
It's fairly hard to go slower than 0
If you do get max and average speeds displayed, it will only be for the last run.
The whole idea behind speed genie, is to be able to see the results of your downwind speed run after you sail back up wind to the start point.
So we normally set speed genie to a speed that's higher than the upwind run and lower than the down wind run.
For example, mine is normally on 27knots. If it's a light wind day and I'm still interested in best speeds, I'll lower it, and if it's a particularly epic day I'll raise it, (although it has to be exceptionally good for me to do more than 27 upwind)
I have set it at 0 knot...
That turns Speed Genie off, so you will only see current speeds. Also make sure you lock the display when you use it; otherwise, accidental button pushes might lead to data deletion (which would explain the "automatic" distance reset). As always, RFTM.
OK found it accidentally how it works - it doesnt read anywhere in TFM... So in GPS mode, when its showing the current speed, then have to press "adjust" button and then delete it. After that it started to collect Top 10 speeds and reset distance - now happy....RTFM that does not say it yeah right...

Sorry mate, there's one, two or 3 generation gaps here, I've no idea what you're talking about, TFM??????????, RTFM????????????
But pressing the adjust button in current speed mode will reset not only the distance display, but delete all your log data!
So this is not recommended if you want to download the existing data!
I've no idea how deleting your data, started speed genie working, it may just have been coincidence.
is there an error with my Gw60?
Im finding my best run allways comes up on ka72 as 1 or 2 knots lower
For example today my best run on watch IIRC reported 26.4 with the second screen scrolldisplaying 26.1 (2 sec peak)
When uploaded to KA72 i get the 2 sec peak as 24.06?
(cant seem to get url from ka72 to post)
Is my gw60 giving me optimistic readings?
cheers Jeff

Doesn't sound right, my watch's 2sec average display is exactly what GRSResults come up with.
There can be up to a knot difference between max speed and 2s average though.
BTW what's IIRC?
I'll PM you my email address, if you send your file I'll see what I get
Just want to say I think the battery life of the GW60 when logging data is crap. At a push with ideal conditions logging at 1hz you'd be lucky to get a 200km session. This is nothing compared to the GT31. Anyone got one they want to sell??? A GT31 that is...
Gotta agree here. Andrew and I turned our GW60's on at exactly the same time and ran out of battery at the same time. Mine was on 5hz. He did heaps of distance and I was doing speed runs. My GT31 which I had running at the same time is worth so many more sessions. I know the gurus will poo poo my comments but it just seems the "great fix" we were all waiting for isn't really happening. The GW60 is a fantastic piece of kit for watchability but the GT31 smacks its arse for "play and forget".
Yeah, I know we cant get them anymore, whatever!!!
Hi all
I may have asked this question before. I am thinking of getting one of these units for both work and my windsurfing. For work use, I need it to display UTC time down to a second precision. (Nb/ the old GT-31 was able to do this).
Also, this device must be passive or must have a flight mode.
Does this device have the above features ?
Cheers J

For a start I'm almost certain it's always passive, the only way it can transmit anything is via usb cable.
You can select time zone in the setup, so UTC shouldn't be a problem either, I'm not sure about the 1sec accuracy all the time.
When the unit is first turned on it needs to sync to satellites before the time display comes up, so it would be accurate then, but I've no idea how often it resyncs, and if the accuracy could drift to more than 1sec

Yes the memory is much bigger, but I think the battery is a tad smaller than the GW52. The only redeeming feature is that it's easier to charge up in your lunch break, (you don't have to dry everything carefully before taking it out of the pouch).
Hi All, I am just an amature Windsurfer and I wan't to give my Son a GW 60 for his birthday( he is going to do the Slalom races in Holland)
I see a lot of questions and solutions in this group.
I've got a simple question: Do you advice to buy the GW60? or should I wait
>>> I know the gurus will poo poo my comments but it just seems the "great fix" we were all waiting for isn't really happening. >>>
No mate, a watch was never the favourite option, it's got smaller everything, antenna, memory and battery.
And the wrist is not an ideal place for GPS accuracy.
But I assume the marketing gurus decided that what would sell the best is the watch.
I'm sure this is a marketing decision, not a technical one.
As so often happens, it may sell more units, but it's not ideal for the purpose.
So basically the fault is down to consumers who listen too much to marketing hype and follow fashion for fashions sake. If everybody considered best for purpose before buying, the marketing guys wouldn't have so much say.

Hi Decrepit, thanks for info. I only need UTC time (but interesting to know it can do local time)
Does the time display HH:MM:SS, or does it display HH:MM ?
Once the unit has GPS lock, can the time freewheel if it loses GPS lock ? (ie: I go outside and get GPS lock. I then go into building - with no GPS signal - and still have watch count UTC time).
J
Time display. hh:mm:ss
That was my point, about accuracy, I've no idea how often it checks the sat time. Once it's synced on initial start up it seems to just run as a watch, GPS signal or not.
Woops revise that, I've just turned it on after several days off and its about 1hr 30min fast. After it's synced it agrees to the second with this computer.
If I could remember just how long it's been off, we could work out how long it would take to be over a second fast, hmm probably not long at all maybe two days. So if it isn't checking the GPS signal regularly it gains 1.5hrs in 48, or 1hr in 32 or 112sec in an hour? That seems like a lot, am I doing this right?
