The GPS Team challenge gets a mention on the JP site:
http://www.jp-australia.com/2010/index.php?id=174&tx_ttnews[tt_news]=197&tx_ttnews[backPid]=173&cHash=b3b95a17d3
Bit of a one sided article but it is still wwexposure for the comp...

Good pick up Kimba.

On another note, there seems to be some angst regarding the JP/NP Mob Netherlands team being comprised of 5 top class sailors. From my perspective as a rather mediocre but none the less keen speed sailor, I think it's fanatastic (both for the sport and especially the GPSTC) that an international "superstar" team like this can be part of the challenge, even though there's a distinct possibility no other team (except SRM ) may be able to compete with them.

I can sympathise with some sailors feelings that such a team is somewhat elitist, but I'm willing to go out on a limb and say that beating a team as good as this, whether this year or in years to come, will be a much sweeter victory. Remember two months don't make a year. These guys raise the bar for everyone and truly give the GPSTC international credibility and exposure - isn't this just what our great but relatively unknown sport needs. I'd hate to think that they would take their bat & ball because of a perceived bias over their team make-up.

my 2 cents worth anyway.

Snags you also need to note that their season hasn't started yet in their home country(unless you call sailing with ice the season start).........the Dutch teams will "slaughter" the Aussie's not to mention the UK boys when they fire up.
Their dominance will come from having some of the best speed spots on their doorstep(which they have quite a few) which offers not only good 10sec but NM's etc.
If they were based at Yeppon i'm sure they would still be faster than you but only just

ps hit the road tomorrow morning 23 hour drive hope to get a sail at Wello on Sunday.

What about incorporating a minimum water temperature before sessions can be eligible. That'll fix 'em.

GPSTC has taken onboard discard months to be fair due to the Northerners ice problems.

Time for the GPSTC to use a Handicap system for Heavy Weights?

It will be interesting right at the end of the year when their season is over and ours is in full swing... we might be able to pip them at the post. Remember there are only 4 discards. Anyone know when their season stops?

That Nebs depends on old mother nature. Recent years we have had a run of mild sailable winters. This current winter has been the coldest for 30yrs. Rumour has it that we here in nw europe could be in for a spate of further cold winters. Last December was pretty mild, the cold only kicked in in January, so the run up to the end of the 2010 season could be real hot, GTC speaking.

As SRM captain I can say we are happy to have the JPNP stars on 46 in the comp.
You will raise the bar undoubtedly.
We're totally happy with your team composition - we can all have who we want - we're just jealous that you guys soooooo look like a team with your matcing sails and boards etc!
Something we will never achieve!
I'm confident the comp will hot up and pan out over the full 12 months.
We welcome your participation!!!
As my team mates have said - bring it on.

A little ironic considering JP is Aussie kit.. If this global team challenge takes off big time this year, other windsurfing kit manufacturers may get in on the act, sponsoring teams, a kin to Formula 1, the result of which would be a split into pro teams and amateur teams. Hopefully the fun for all emphasis will not be lost.

I wouldn't mind if a kit manufacturer sponsored me... I could be the only Ezzy sponsored speed sailor

Thanks for bringing this up in an open way. We're jealous too for not being able to sail at Sandy Point

Jacques is extremely committed as team captain and I feel it wuld be great for GPS speedsurfers if more manufacturers would be interested in promting their brands this way. In the past windsurfing heroes were out of reach and now everyone can benefit from World Cup top riders sail with ad against them and learn from their sail, board and fin choices. Personally I hope more and more PWA riders decide to join GPSTC and GP3S.

Hats off to Gybe Sports, they have backed this comp to the hilt from day one, along with seabreeze and others.

JP Australia is about as Aussie as you are, perhaps you are even more Aussie than JP Australia is.

Yeah thanks Gybesports and all the other sponsors. The challenge is becoming massive. It will be interesting to see where it leads. Perhaps part of the challenge will become part of the PWA?

Well Jason's definitely an Aussie, but I think it's only his name that's part of the sailboard company.
The fact that they're sold/advertised, alongside Neil Pryde is no coincidence

No way!!!!!!

If anybody wants to do aussie only, it's easy enough, just select "Australia" instead of "International".

I think, teams will compete against others at their own level, it doesn't have to be about being 1st, you can still have a ding dong battle over 6th, 15th or whatever. The butterfly effect of all the other teams, just adds to the fun and unpredictability.

The challenge was conceived as a fun inclusive thing, there's no reason for that to change just because there's some teams full of elite sailors.

Don't worry Izaak, as the competition hots up, you'll just get faster and faster.

As Martin said, us lesser mortals learn from the fast guys not the slow ones - it 'll work out just fine. It's early days yet

I didn't intend my comments to open yet another can of worms, it was meerly an observation, based on the JP Mob team name , those boyz change kit more often than your average speedie ... next year it might be CAKA Five O Crew

Who knows what the future holds for the international comp. I'm sure Nebs and Hardie will build on the already established success of the comp.

Perhaps an international league will be established, with relegations and promotions on the cards.

At the end of the day mate, there are 6 scoring categories, granted 2-3 of which do favour fast spots but (and that's a big BUT) the international and local comps will be won and lost on the 1hr , nm, alpha500, and distance , and not on the 2s and 10s. It's pretty much a level playing be you pro or amateur.
