If it can't be worked out technically for this year, then maybe, team consolidations need to be worked out to start as of 01/01/09.

Talking about next year, I had a thought about evening out the slowy advantage a bit.
(Somebody from the pitcrew mentioned, they'd suggested the NM to even out the SP advantage, then Slowy comes over and goes faster than them anyway, not to mention his trips to overseas speed strips)

Change the "post from anywhere" rule, to "post from anywhere within your own state".

I'm not sure if it's the right way to go or not, (Slowy's big out of state speeds needs a back up, so doesn't always have much affect), so thought I'd mention it and see what everybody else thinks.

OK for Nebs, it wouldn't need any software changes.
And it is a state based challenge,

Shouldn't affect most teams, except maybe the underprivileged wind states, that may want to travel to other states for better wind.
NSW and the ACT would miss out on posting a Sandy Point /Green Island session.

And any out of state session wouldn't be on this data base, don't know about anybody else, but I'm not much good at keeping records, this site is great for that.

How about just keeping it to sessions done within Australia... that way teams arent penalised when they do trips to SP etc.

Also maybe introduce some sort of handicap system to try to narrow the gap between the real fast guys and slow guys like me

Not that it really bothers me cos I am really only ever trying to beat my own speeds anyway

Decrepit ,my feeling is keep it the way it is as it encourages people to do a bit of traveling in search of the perfect spot and its always fun to "Compete" with the vistors. Our main problem is that we don,t have an easy to get to NM site and at the Pit most NM have a jybe or two in them.At the moment there is 11 pts between 2 and 5th. The only way to catch the Slowly mob is with a jet ski. I still like the idea of a one month discard, our 60pts month just hurts.

Haha agree with Kato though with Pierre heading to Croatia it could be said im a bit biased. I dont see anything wrong with having abit of international flavour.
Just Have to get AB and Dunky joined up .

There may be some merit to a one (worst) month discard, Nebbsy said there was some technical difficulty with it though?

I like the idea of slowey and others being able to post their overseas speeds on an ozzie website, so would be reluctant to ban that.

I think the 2009 comp could be evened out a bit by a 1 month discard and some teams uniting, a VIC United and QLD United could seriously give the WA teams a run for their money.

But lets not forget sailing all year, all over the country, and the world, and developing our friendships and relationships, is more important than who wins. Though it would be good if everyone thought they had a chance of winning it one year.

PS if money allows it, there will be a perpetual Runners-Up trophy on offer.

I'm with you Hardie, doesn't worry me where Slowie posts from, but then I don't think FNQM have the SRM too worried any which way Come to think of it, he's OS now and the FNQ Wanabee's leading August

I'm also all for small teams uniting, I can remember how hard it was with onlky two of us. But then what I did was start finding guys who haven't sailed for years and got them keen again and hunted up some who don't sail at Yorkey's but are in my area But then I wouldn't like to see bigger teams unite cos we need more teams rather than less

The whole GPSTC thing is just the ducks nuts, I'm now sailing with more guys instead of on my own, have just met a couple of guys from Brisbane and also two more from Townsville who might join us
I also know no matter where I'd go in Aus I'd be made welcome, so at the end of the day the GPSTC is doing what it was really set up to do

I am happy to see the foreign posts continue to come in. It is interesting to see where people get to sail and I really enjoy watching to see how Slowie and others go in competition abroad.
By geographical coincidence (I happen to live near the Man Mob favourite spots) I am in a competitive team, the possible dowside of this is that my scores rarely count towards the team as I am not very fast (yet). I suggest people make sure they really want to swap/ amalgamate teams to be competitive across the states as they may then find their own results infrequently contribute to the new bigger/ faster team!

very good point evets....teams becoming bigger means more scores becoming irrelevant.. if this happens too frequently to a sailor they may find a lack of motivation to continue?...

I have a solution. How bout any team with more than 10members the scores are taken from the top three. In essence the bigger the team the more posts needed to count.

Your thoughts fellow speed nuts?

if it ain't broke?

If someone wants to travel, fair enough, there is no guarantee that there will be wind at their home location as well.

Don't have a prob with merging teams to make a more viable number of competitors.

Don't have a prob with people transferring, although their data should stay with original team (until transfer) as it will end up a quagmire sorting it and back calculating.

Personally believe dropping 1 month, 2 months, 3 months 4 a bit of a WAFTAM and Kinda defeats the purpose of the challenge

Just my opinion

If you do want to have some changes

How about a $2 session fee which can be paid to me so I can afford the damage I will inevitably do to myself and my kit

I don't think $2 will cover your damage and medical costs Elmo.
p.s. do you have to get the fur dry cleaned?

$2 per session per person might just cover the bills.

It's good value for the entertainment I provide

It appears the SRM might be heading for the GTC overall trophy for the second year running and that it might be a fierce tussle for second.
I feel I can appreciate the SRM for the well oiled machine that they are and W.A. for it's consistently moderate winds.
I feel that the GTC needs to add some other incentives to satisfy the drive of some of the other competitors and keep every body interested.
I suggest some secondary seasonal trophies for spring-summer and autumn-winter or any other shortened periods you might feel appropriate.

There is now going to be a Runners-up Trophy, and some of your other suggestions have some merit.
