I may be wrong, but I think you'll find that the navilink II has two ways of reading, depending on the tab at the top.
Logger data - confusingly is the Card Data - BUT it merges all the sessions on the card.
Navi data is the Log (internal memory) so just since the last clear. You can clear this from the NaviLink screen.
It also reads speed genie - but I dont know what format that is in. And you can clear that.
I think they sort of got the names backwards !
But if Im wrong it wouldnt be the first time.
Thats what I thought at first but a bit of testing showed that both tabs download the Data Logger internal memory file. One tab gets it as the raw .sbp file and the other converts the data into the other formats.
The data logger is a continuous file. It will just keep adding to it every time you turn the unit on. This is why I 'save to card' and then clear it before every session. But it does have the advantage of making a single file for that session even if I turn the GPS off during the session for a while.
On the other hand. The .sbn file created on the SD card makes a new file every time the GPS is turned on. This is why you have separate files for each day, or session, or multiple files for a day where you turn the unit on and of during that day.
The different logging characteristics can be used to advantage depending on what you want and how you do it.
