I've only just got the Pixi as well so am definitely no expert but would be interested to know Paul when you go into Settings -> Location does it list GPSLogit under "recent location requests"?
Wifi works without a sim card, I've switched mine on so it can update as required at home.
morts, I have Wi-fi switched on but for location it's not ticked as when on the water Wi-fi won't be available.
"Recent Location Requests" includes GPSLogit, among other things.
When I swipe down from the top of the screen it shows that it's "Looking for GPS Location" & counting the seconds, been doing this for days ![]()
There is a couple of other things below that that say "aGPS" & the Location icon but when you touch them it says "This feature is available in the Pro version"
I have the Location & GPS icons across the top of the screen, it would seem the phone & the App are not linking up.
So if you click on logit in the "recent location requests" (good thinking mort) field and scroll down it will show you it's permissions, gps location should be amongst them.
Mine has lots of trouble getting a gps fix inside, it needs to sit outside whith a clear sky view for a few minutes, Then instead of logit saying "no GPS fix" it come up with the time.
Mike, This is what's showing up.
The top one uses GPS, Network location & Wifi for precise location.
It also says these should be switched on but I think we have to rely on GPS alone when out on the water.
Andrew,
I have also loaded "GPS Status" which is not working either, it keeps searching as well.
It's almost like the GPS doesn't work or exist within the phone.
Is there any way to check?
Have you tried going into Settings -> Location then using the slider up the top of the screen to turn the GPS off, a little "GPS Stopped" appears on screen. Wait a few seconds & then restart the GPS with the slider, you should get "GPS Started" then touch mode & select "Device Only".
After that try GPSLogit again, when you start the app it should say "GPS disabled Enable it for recording..." tap ok & see if it will find satellites.
morts, done all that 100 times, I reckon it's a dud phone.
I don't think the GPS works at all.
Today I reloaded the trial version on my old phone & that worked ok, just had to back date the phone date to make it work ![]()
Actually I might try loading the Trial version on the Pixi.
I wish there was some way to check out the GPS in the phone.
I might try & buy another one if they have stock but I doubt that.
Do a factory reset to begin with. Then in settings choose developer options and then select enable mock locations.

Roo
Thanks Roo but I have a couple of questions first.
I found the factory reset but it says I will lose all the Apps, does this mean you have to download again and pay again or does it somehow remember from your Google account?
In the Pixi there is no Developer option in the menu, however there is in my other phone.
Would it be under something else in the menu?
The apps are saved in your Google account so no need to pay for them again. You can also do a backup to your account before a reset.
The developer option is there but you have to enable it. In "settings" go to "about phone". Find the "about phone" menu and select. Go down to the "build number" and tap on it 10 times quickly, it will enable "developer" mode. Find that menu then "allow mock locations". If that doesn't work then your GPS is inoperative.

Roo
Well who would't know that then ![]()
Sometimes it amazes me how they think we could possibly work this stuff out, imagine if they weren't smart phones![]()
Any way, thanks Roo, I did all that although the App didn't come back so I had to go searching in the App Store whatever and re-download it.
Changed the setting etc but still no go so I am guessing it's a dud.
What a waste of a week![]()
As my other phone seems to be working ok I might just use that, it seems to be getting 8 sats now.
I still haven't tried the voice bit yet & that's all I wanted it for, purely for tuning and learning more about my stance and board trim etc while on the water.
Thanks everyone
It's not easy for mechanically minded people when there's no moving parts![]()
>>>Now I take no notice as I know logit is likely to be overestimating, which makes the app useless with this phone.
Only accurate feedback is good. Inaccurate feedback is misleading and causes you to sail differently to how you should.
Anita where are you wearing the phone?
If it gets a good signal it should be very close to the GT31. The biggest problem with the Xperia is it's half knot resolution, so 30.1kts will be recorded as 30.6kts, and because of the 1kt resolution of speed talk, will be spoken as 31kts.
You gain a bit of accuracy by switching to Km/hr, that way you almost double the speech resolution to about 0.5kts, but then you have to do a mental calculation back to kts!
The GT31 is on my left upper chest. The phone has been on my right upper arm. I will try it elsewhere. I think when I was first using it it's accuracy was better, but
I can't remember if I had it in a different spot. Maybe on my right upper chest.
I don't wear a helmet so I will try wearing it on my left shoulder. I am not bothered by it being out by a knot or so, but 4 knots is ridiculous. I think it was during the bear away that is was overestimating the most.
I tried the phone on my shoulder today. It still overestimated my speeds by about 3 knots, and that was across the wind. I couldn't evaluate it for very long because it switched itself off after 4 km, despite being in the chocolate box. Display was still on but no speed chat and no further recording. So ANNOYING.
I had my Pixie on my upper arm today in the Amphix pouch so I could use the earphones. Chocolate box doesn't fit in there, so mine was doing all sorts of annoying things as well, music on and off, restarting whenever the pouch got wet. The speed wasn't too bad though. It awarded me an extra 0.8 of a knot for the 2s, the 5x10 was 0.1 low
and the alphas were within 0.2kts.
I don't suppose you've done what I did once, and had it set on mph?
I don't suppose you've done what I did once, and had it set on mph?
YES! That's it! You are brilliant! I could hug you! (you'll have to take a rain check on that).
I wonder how that happened? That explains why it used to be a lot more accurate...
Now to stop the darned thing from turning itself off...
Every time mine turned itself off today, it would come up with the settings screen, on the water I couldn't see where anything was set, I just hit the "OK" button, to get the main screen. This caused it to change from Alphas to max speed, so anything can happen on the water!
I seem to remember that Mat found some settings in the 'developer menus' that made a big difference with mine, which hardly ever turns itself off now.
Looks for setting that disable screen saver etc.
I use a ruberised plastic case on my Sony Xperia I bought online. I find that this used in conjunction with the H2O waterproof bag successfully guards against inadverdent operation of the buttons on the side of the phone and the touch screen. Once set up, phone never turns off during the session
Any luck Aus808?
I have exactly the same experience as you, on same phone, and followed all the tips and advice as directed here, even emailed GPS site for some tips...
It looks great on the phone...just cant get the program to talk to the phones GPS, and the phone GPS is working according to google maps..
HOURS of my life that I will never get back..let alone the wasted $$..
Edit! Took the pixie for a drive, whispered in her ear that she didn't perform it was going to be all over for her....presto!
Seems that she gets turned on by taking her for a drive, doesn't like sitting around!
So there you go...talking feature is pretty cool... Except mine started requesting crap songs on the radio... Wt?!![]()

do you have logit's minimum speed set to high?

Weird, it's usually the opposite, it gets a satellite fix quicker if it's stationary.
You know it's got a fix, when it displays the current time.
Mine starts and stops playing my music randomly, seems to be something to do with a slightly noisy 3 contact earphone plug. If I change to the 4 contact earphones that came with the device there isn't a problem.
It doesn't have a sim card and I run it in aeroplane mode, so it doesn't try requesting songs from anywhere.
I have a Samsung s3 from a fewyears ago. That was/is still a good phone. the results on that with the logit are very near to the GT31.
Then l bought a cheap Alcatel one touch Pixi.
Utter rubbish so, you get what you pay for as usual!
Any luck Aus808?

Jonesy, I picked up a new phone from Officeworks (matched price less 5% = $18).
Brought it home set only what I require as I am having a sim card or music etc.
Sat it in the open for a half hour & presto, we have "lock-on". Have yet to test while moving.
Brought it inside the house & a couple of hours later I hear some talking, it was giving readings but had been nowhere
I did 26 knots walking inside ![]()
My other phone did the same last week after testing in the car, just started talking the next day for no reason.
Any way I am hoping to get my stuff in a pile & take it sailing over the weekend.
I am not worried about the accuracy just the feedback for gear & stance tuning etc.

This is the problem with the pixie, it seems to prematurely register a satellite fix. Take it inside, wipe out and submerse it, and it looses signal, then has to re-establish a fix.
Because, it does this prematurely, the data it first produces is rubbish and even sitting still you can do all sorts of speeds. Once it gets a good solid fix, the numbers aren't too bad. But if you want good numbers, you have to make sure it has a good look at as much sky as possible. The best numbers I've had with it was by wearing it on my head.
Good tip! My setting was 20knt so changed it down to 5 should help with getting it started.
Have 'car' tested, spot on.
Yet to test it on the water bit short of time presently.
I have the feeling that the App is way better than the phone, and for $19 or $18, What can we expect, I've hated using the phone it's a pig compared to an I phone.
Anyway it's looks like a great tool so hope it works, certainly easier to get instant feedback, see results and info than a GT31 that's for sure.
I've got the Pixie and the Xperia. The Xperia is much more reliable and although more exspensive at $65 compared to $29, it is better value because it works all the time.
Tried the talky bit today & although a pretty ordinary day wind wise, the App seemed to work OK.
Had it on on for the drive to the beach which is about 2 minutes & turned the volume down as the boss was not liking the tone of the bitch in the box screeching every 1 second![]()
Any way on the water it seemed to work but I had trouble hearing, not sure if it was from turning down the volume or simply because I'm pretty mutton.
More testing to be done ![]()
Wont be long now until you can buy a snap on accessory that gives your smartphone cm level gps position accuracy. Won't need the GT31, Canmore, GW52, just snap onto your phone, start up GPSLogit and away you go.
