BSN101, i got a 150 litre board 6months ago. Tried it quite a few times with 9.5 n 8.5. I was the 'SpinMaster' on the gusts. Friggin pissing me off. Tried rig tune over n over. Im used to RB style tune. So had to depower, id crank the DH adjust OH n mastrack. Even tried 4 different fins. Still the same outcome. Spin spin spin on the gusts. Then i shifted my rear footstraps towards the centreline by one hole. Rigged n finned as i normally would it now sails filth.
No more SPIN = Bloody massive grin. Seems my 103kg n rhino stance was just too much pressure on the rail. Even though fins were powerful n 52-57cm long.. maybe try it n take it for a test spin. Errrr i mean NO SPIN....
Maybe you were pressing the windward rail into the water? Too much heel pressure puts the windward rail in and makes any board spin prone. That you moved the straps inboard and solved the problem suggests that this may have been the cause. Even when wicked overpowered, it may be necessary to point the toes to keep the board flat (and fast).

Ive spun out on my US147 with a Drake Race 58 fin a couple of times. Thats scary! Ido want to go to the extremes next summer with the US straps. 30knts is the target.
I think I can safely say your not getting 30 knots on the US147 with the drake 58. I've had it very powered up and bearing away was terrifying.
Should be do-able, ive sailed my ultra in light stuff only & 26's all day with 9.7 when having to pump alot to get going. Doesnt seem nearly as terrifying as formula deep off the wind.
Didnt like the drake, didnt get spinout at speed but prefer a little more grip & pointing when just planing. Have new 61cm Select to try with it will see how it goes but 30 with 9.7 is the goal.

I have a Tribal SL46 to try and ill be trying for 30 on my 7.7 or 7.2, you're nuts!! lol
good luck as id be **ing myself with that much sail up.
Mine was a 95ltre Tabou rocket with a wavesail..Looking at your list probably all those things
..Most likely unhooking badly , losing mast foot pressure and bouncing on the entry..?
If unhooking is a big problem, that's good news, since that's easy to fix. Practice unhooking by just moving your hips forward a bit, and letting the line fall out. Then, focus on really hanging down on the boom so you can control the pressure. Get low! The bent knees will help later, too.
The good thing about this is that you can practice going in a straight line, until it becomes fully automated.
At the ABK windsurfing camps that I often attend, the unhooking is always a big deal when it comes to learning jibes, since it is very easy to disturb the board by moving too much and opening the sail when unhooking.

It's the board size more than sail area, have done 34 with 9.7 on 85w board & it still had potential left. But it's easier stepping down to smaller sail & board for the same wind so it has to be a goal to bother. The ultrasonics are very different than the 85w slaloms though so we'll see what happens ![]()
I have no problem holding a 8.6 in a lot of wind, I have to change down board before sail. The US147 with the drake is good up to 25-26knots then it wants to fly, maybe ok if you can find very flat water but even then the fin starts to lift to much. A smaller fin and I think 30 maybe doing-able.
I go down to a fox140 when the US starts to fly and then I've got a few more knots before I have to switch down sails.
Dave, on the speed run I also reckon it more often happens not when overpowered, but when you lose power when going for it, leading to too much back foot pressure, then spin out, then kaboom!
Agree with that stretch, I got smashed after a big gust and lost fin pressure, as Ben said was probably to tensed up as well.
When I started this thread I didn't really think hard about my experience.
So in a nut shell.
The time that I've caught a front rail that I was thinking of was powered up on a reach at GH on a westerly. Water was roughly 1foot in the squalls and no spin out occurred.
I have spun out lots with most fins but can't recall ever catching the rail into a crash.
