42 average from what I heard, not really enough room for a good 500m run.

Still, I reckon it's pretty cool that joe average can buy 2 grands worth of kit, and sail at over half the speed of the world record... and if you're dedicated you can get within 30% of the world record, without being superhuman or overly rich.

I can't imagine too many other sports where you can do that.

I'd be happy with a 2 sec 40.

Actually I'd be stoked with a 2 sec 39!

38.1 on the dial would have me jumping up and down like a loonie

Nebs I agree with you 100%. Its just that last 25-30% difference may as well be the grand canyon.
Its amazing how easy it is to get around 30knts but but after that every kont faster seems to be a major jouney.

I thinks that what makes speed sailing for me so addictive.

Didn't find out till I got home, unfortunately I'm banned from doing the Elmo dance at home (it upsets the dog).

Gotta admit I have had a dirty great smirk on my face for the last hour or 2

I see Slowie has posted his Namibian speeds on the GPS team Challenge site. Forgetting the fairness aspect 45.4kn 2 sec on the 27th at Luderitz is smoking. Still not quite up to Hennie's speed though...

Results in for day 1 at Walvis Bay. Slowboat in 8th spot. Square course with 30 knots, the big boys dominated on such a tight course. Details here www.cans.co.za/ Wednesday is going to be a huge day, expect 44 knot runs and above, good breeze coming in and course should get broader. Looks as if it will blow all week.

I guess I could be accused of bias cause I'm from the same state, but I'm enjoying seeing slowboat's times on the challenge site.
Might be different if there were 2 people over there posting, but because of the need for somebody here to post as well, doesn't seem to be much of an advantage so far.

How ya doin bro? Not much wind here! What's with the change in Avatar? At least the other one could qualify as your twin!!!

Re: Chris Lockwood posting, I think the way the rules are set up it is legitimate. You just have to be registered, be part of a team and to be windsurfing on a particular day. We did not specify it had to be in Australian waters. If however, most people have a problem with this, then we will have to make a rule change for next year.

My thoughts are as follows:

If you want to spend all that money to fly to Namibia, just to improve your speed and therefore have a better chance at a trophy, then good luck to you! The team aspect still comes into play, in that you have to have another member of your team posting on the same day to make it valid.

From my own webmasterish point of view, slowboat has upped the max speed in the "Top Ten" page to quite a respectable speed, which I'm very happy about:

No matter, you can sail on Mars if you want, (you may have a problem with the dust at and finding a good water point) as long as your team member/s sail same day, on Earth or what ever planet you want too be on.(you proably need one with some H2O in good supply)
My vote leave it as it is.
Its a team sport as you guys set it up to be. The other group/site located in Europe go the individual which is OK if that’s what they committed too do.
This group involvement means even snail paced teams like Pinna's join in the fun of it, and learn heaps from those who as flash as, and don’t mind passing on their assistance/knowlage.

Bit chilly at the moment, glad I'm not here to windsurf!!!

The Avatar's Robert the Bruce.
I changed to it for Robert Bruce to see if he was a reincarnation.
He says he isn't, just haven't got round to changing it back.

Part of me identifies with the wild Scots.
