Thumbs Up

I spent 3 weeks on the island last year and loved it. I took my own gear which was a hassle (baggage handlers wrecked one of my boards) and wife freaked out at the airport

I stayed at Macdonalds and they were terrific. Basic holiday cabins no hot water and power only during the day till 9m food was really really good too.

I sailed a few times in front of safari lodge but the guys at McDonald's ran me out to the near by island and I sailed mostly between the point (kite point I think they called it) and the mainland. It was a great holiday and northern Fiji was so much nicer than the busy parts.

I arrived a little too early to catch the trades but July was supposed to be best. There are a apparently bunch of sailors that go there every year.

I hired some gear from Warren and it was pretty good stuff and he was fair with his pricing. I recall there was some issues a while ago with a kiting group that went a bit crazy. Seemed to be a lot of stories about him though. To be honest I found him really accommodating.

I really enjoyed the island and the local people. My advise is don't go for 1 week cause there are always lulls. I used mainly a 7m on a 130 I'm 100Kg. I'd say most could get away with 100 litre freeride and 5 to 6 m. We had 2 25 knot days where I was on a 5.5 and 90 litre.

If there's no wind drink bounty rum and you won't care

Hope u have a great holiday
