Very simple way to stop the tailgaters, change their object of focus. Once you understand the psychology of drivers one simple action causes them to back off. Wash your windscreen, the jet of water over the top of your car onto their windscreen changes their focus and they back off as they are now distracted by the water spray. Works well on the highway when your doing 140kph and they wont back off, much safer than touching your brakes.
Better than that would be a small alteration to your rear windshield washer, to make it squirt behind, instead of onto the rear of your own car. Someone I know has repeatedly threatened to do this, using cat piss to spray them. I reckon it'd be effective (ever had a cat pee on your windscreen & into the vents
?), but good luck getting a cat to provide the necessary ammunition. And you'd lose the use of your rear windshield washer.
So I do hope everyone in this thread does do the speed limit, right...? ![]()
You mean "drives within the speed limit" don't you? There are roads down in the SW where the speed limit is 110kph, but sensible drivers slow down for the surrounding conditions, even in perfect weather. In NSW similar windy roads are posted at 90kph. And they wonder why the road toll in the SW is a bit high.
Our local roads are 80 or 100kms but with feral deer ,roos, broken edges and potholes you'd be stupid to do the limit especially at night.
If some of these young P platers could see the damage a 180kg Stag does when it T bones your Ute the might pull their heads in.
One foggy am I drove past a Ute parked on the sloping verge with a massive dent in the side. 100m away was a bull sized stag smashed in the middle of the road.![]()
The tow truck driver said he attends 5 deer strikes a week.
1) what has this got to do with windsurfing?
2) who is this guy and his unsubstantiated anti government drivel
3) why post this S*$t and know you are going to cause division
Sorry Nudie you're a nice guy but just don't.......please. There is enough on line arguing about the things we actually know about (toe in/downhaul/fin selection etc etc) without this rubbish bringing division to our last few still windsurfing community.
This is fun discussion. There's lots of drugos on the roads now days. It takes hardly anything to flick the switch. The media is full of stories of victims reacting to road ragers and ending up badly injured. What do you value most ?. Ideology or health ?

I get serious ram rage. I will try pissing out the window at them next time.
This is why i am now a druggo on the big blue highway driving a mac truck (Neil Pryde RSOne).
When i am not doing this i wear a Gonad Man t-shirt a mate gave me. So, i don't have or need a 'truck'.
And when they (or 'It') bans cars on the beach i'm going by horse and cart.
Circles. It's all mad circles, set a course and sail it.
Back to the start anyway .. He has a point. the govt rules are stupid and in trying to reduce emissions we end up with a mess that in some ways achieves the opposite. how can giant yank tanks be exempt for a start? how is the CO2 target available to be bought n sold so some vehicles can be non compliant? If we are saving the world let's be serious
1) what has this got to do with windsurfing?
Windsurfing wouldn't exist if we weren't in the middle of the boom in private transport. Many spend more time at the wheel going to windsurfing venues than they do TOW. Will windsurfing/foiling/winging last through the transition to EVs? Be hard to match the versatility of the fossil-fueled surfwagon that supported the sport. Half the population will be relying on driverless taxis.
Most of us dismissed the opening video as nonsense.
The *government does make/break/change/bend/borrow stupid rules, fact. But things are changing so fast, humans cannot imagine how the future is going to look so best focus on now i think.

How do you get the cat to piss into the wiper bottle ?

You put the whole cat in. The rest just happens naturally.

EMU larger comes in a can or bottle that's easy to pour! Cats p!ss ready to go.
That link that I posted was given to my wife and I from a car dealership.
My wife is looking for a new car!!!
What she has been looking at only comes in a hybrid or an EV.
I did not expect that this post would have gone the way it has.
No MM, no ram.
Laurie could you please delete this before someone else gets offended.
See you all on the water one day in the near future.
Nobody's offended Nudie. You put a few question marks in the header to be safe. Go the EV. Hybrids are a dog's breakfast. Worst of both worlds.
I love my EV!!!!
We've had it 2 years and it's only been a joy.
There's a lot of very false stuff promulgated by the fossil fuel industry as that video shows.
Not sure what it's like where you are, but lack of public charging stations can be an issue if you can't charge at home or want to do unplanned long trips.
But people are doing long trips, you just need to know where the charging stations are.
Newer cars can charge much faster than old ones, a toilet break and a coffee is all you need.
If you have a solar installation, it's much more economical to charge the car on excess solar rather than get paid peanuts for it from the grid.
I wonder when I can afford one? I hope the Govt will give them to poor people to save the planet.
Or realise that a new phone every year, 1/4acre flatscreens and houses with black roofs no eaves and no greenery are probably stuffing the planet way faster.
Anyywayyyyy I reckon the vid has some merit. If indeed the numbers do work like he says....

Yes it does highlight the loopholes. (deliberately added to appease dual cab ute buyters) . Hopefully the loopholes close up as the system ramps up. But the video made a big omission. It didn't mention that the big driver of the system overseas is urban air quality. CO2 is a proxy for the nasties that are harder to keep tabs on. Maybe urban air pollution is not all that much of an issue in OZ. Unless you live in Freo.

Yes, but not really when the kites come in plague proportions. Or when the turtle attacks the fin, not friendly ![]()
The myriads of viewpoints that media is currently presenting I find painfully confusing.
Americanization. Big trucks. Fast paced life. Sugar. Cheap smokes and bet yo ass ya'll, even cheaper booz soon. That's what's plain to see. Stay healthy, sail!
I'm just glad Imax is still here to give cat / wiper bottle imagery. I heard your heart went for a catapult without you Col?

I'd love an EV Van but the ones that are here are too small and not enough range. Just have to keep waiting.

I wondered about that. I'd have thought that given the huge flat floor pan we would see tradie vans with double the range of everything else, and a fktonne of charger outlets in the back for tools and a 240V outlet
the amount of battery you could fit.. ![]()

What about that new VW "Kombi" EV?
What's wrong with a trailer behind an EV? Decrepit's MG4 is allowed to pull 500kg.
Granted, it won't be much use for city dwellers, but in the Shoalhaven/Jervis Bay area there's lots of dedicated trailer parking for jetskiers that hardly gets used outside Christmas week.
I wonder when I can afford one? I hope the Govt will give them to poor people to save the planet.

How much do you spend on a car? We upgraded EVs and sold the old one for about $11k which is not expensive for an immaculate Nissan of its age (ten years, I think).
The typical Australian car does 12,100 km per year according to budget.direct. The typical Australian ICE car produces about 4 tons of Co2 per year according to RAC WA. Engineers Australia says that over its lifetime and including car and battery construction emission, an EV SUV creates 23% as much Co2 as an ICE SUV so let's say 1 ton of Co2 per year, ignoring the fact that EV batteries have a much more useful afterlife than ICE cars. Those stats also ignore all the EV users who charge their car normally from their home solar.
Tim Berners-Lee claims that using an i-phone through its entire lifetime, including building it, has the same Co2 emissions as 9 gallons of petrol ie 80kg of Co2. See the piece on Reboxed.com. So an i-phone does NOT create anything like as much Co2 as a car.
Statistica says that a TV uses 595kg of Co2 during its life, so let's say 50kg/year. So it's BS to even come close to comparing a TV to an ICE car.
Thesba.com.au says the typical Aussie house produces 5 tonnes of Co2 per year. CSIRO says that a quick bit of work on insulation and air gaps etc can reduce that by about 1.6 tonnes. Fitting solar reduces it by 2 tonnes.
So phones and TVs do NOT "trash the planet way faster" than running an ICE unless you reckon that 5000kg is the same as 130kg. A badly designed house emits about 25% more Co2 than an ICE but that's not really "way faster" than driving an ICE car.
So someone with a properly insulated house with solar and an EV may see those two big-ticket items produce about 2 tonnes of Co2 per year, including making the car, or less if they normally charge from their home solar. Someone with a normal house and an EV will emit about 6 tonnes, including making the car. Someone who has a normal house and an ICE will emit about 10 tonnes including making the car. Phones and TVs are basically irrelevant but the car you drive is not.

A fair bit of windsurfing exists in some cities and areas with people storing boards at waterside clubs and commercial facilities.
There's not a damn thing stopping anyone from going windsurfing in an EV and it's strange to see why anyone would think there is. We've been running EVs for a few years now, living outside a small town that is seven hours from a capital city and a couple of hours inland. Lots of city whackers who have never tried an EV pop up in comments sections saying that you can't use EVs for long drives in Australia but it's complete ignorant bull****. There is nothing stopping anyone from going windsurfing with an EV and I did so even with our first EV which had very short range.
We have a little EV hatch and an ICE campervan now I've taken the old Forester off the road and just use it as a paddock basher. If I had the choice between a Forester-size EV and a Forester-size ICE for windsurfing I'd take the EV every time because it's cleaner, much cheaper, and much more fun to drive because of the acceleration, low C of G, and silence.
