I wouldn't worry too much about the weight. My boards are built on the heavy side and seem to go just fine. The only time I feel the extra weight is carrying it to the water. It looks like your board is made well. At least it won't fall apart and be fragile.

Thanks! It is my first build. I live near Saint Paul, Minnesota. It's currently -20 and will be for a while so it probably will be April before things thaw. I'm hoping by mid March I can drive south 1/2 day and find some open water.
