My harness line lengths are independent of boom height. I use 30cm so that my arms are straight while sailing. This minimises RSI injury to the tendons connecting my triceps and biceps to my lower arm.

30cm? That's super short.

Im183 tall and find that I tweak the to sail & board combination & conditions.

I think he meant 30 inches..

Thanks for pointing out another senior moment

I had a flying experience yesterday.
JPSL66 Tribal WS29 NP Hellcat 6.7. Mast base just covering the back of the mast track. Sail at correct DH, OH neutral. Boom at about 1/3 from bottom of cut out harness lines at 30inch seat harness and wind low/mid 20 knots.
The sail was very light in the hands and the board was skipping across the water in all angles. Great feeling, even better in the gusts. and posted 34knts as my new PB. HAPPY DAYS

Sounds great! Do you have much experience flying off the fin or is this the first time ? Sounds like it's worth working towards.

I'm sure that I've experienced it before, in times gone by.
This thread has identified a state of sailing, eutopia if you like that we should all aim for as it is real and accessible to everyone.
I will certainly be tweaking to find it on my next session. It's simply where the fun factor increases well beyond the physical effort and you feel that you could do it for hours & hours.
My previous sail was with EVO 7.8. I started with less DH and it was a powerful rig but a handful. The wind kicked in and I increased DH and it became light in the hands. The sail flew and I thought the board was too, til I crashed. Maybe I did fly!
If you're not fighting your kit then you are there or close. We need to constantly adapt & tweak to the conditions. And remember that feeling.

I've got to get over my fear of crashing.. I don't stack it very often but I think that stops me from progressing..I chipped half a tooth off once eating the boom after a rail grabbed going into a gybe and that makes me a bit nervous..

Yep lose the nerves or stop smiling going into the gybe, this is serious you know!
If you want to fly then you must be going fast unless you're on a foil.
Crashing is all part of the sport, a very small part.

stop smiling going into the gybe,
Grimacing... I'm considering getting a mouthguard..It may never happen again but at least I'll have more confidence as I learn..I still have a fangy smile to remind me of that day..

Just for something different, I'm 6' and use 28 lines. 30 are too long for me and give me control issues. Don't get sucked into the longer is better crap. Experiment yes, but if it doesn't work for you don't persist.
