I love these!!! No more issues! I've been using them for 6 years now. I don't wear them with a full suit, but I do with a shorty and when I wear boardshorts. The full suit puts enough pressure on the tendon in order for me not to need the brace. The brace is a great choice. Super sturdy built, comfy, adjustable and does not get in the way. I highly recommend it for tennis elbow and tendon issues in the arm.
Strengthening the muscles around the tendon has helped me considerably, such as bicep curls. When I do my curls, I won't windsurf the next day or 2. I give the muscle recovering time before I get out windsurfing again.
So nearly 12months down the track. Still have a slight issue with tendonitis. Tried many different 'cures'. Flexbar, ice n massage seems to work for me. Interestingly the pain 'line' can be felt from ring finger n middle finger (numbness)thru the elbow (pain) right up to between front n middle deltoids.(aches when massaged, but otherwise gives no pain.) All this started when i tried to seperate a totally stuck mast by twisting. ![]()
Go see a sports doctor.
I had tennis and golf elbows, had lots of physio, needles, massage and laser. None worked. Went to a good doctor who said......rest 12 months and it will repair or PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) injectors and shock therapy will speed up the recovery. It turned out that I'd split both tendons in several locations, some were up to 30 mm long. Cost was about $250 per injection, total cost of about $4 k.
And it worked .

The description of a pain line from your fingers to your could suggest that the cause may be the nerve that runs down your neck all the way down your arm. The pain is usually felt in the region of the elbow, a la tendonitis. A simple exercise known as a radial glide can fix it. There are a few variations of it online, the ones I used came from my Physio. The movement frees up the nerve pathway. Very effective.

Interesting. I've had elbow tendonitis before that flex bar exercises fixed very quickly, but I also sometimes have tingling fingers while windsurfing, and (light) pain at other places in the lower arm afterwards. Looking at the first picture at overhaultraining.com/radial-nerve-entrapment/ and reading about it, it seems quite possible that there's some radial nerve entrapment going on. Will have to try some radial glide exercises and supinator/pronator strengthening exercises. It seems, though, that the flex bar exercises also would induce a bit of nerve gliding - maybe just not enough, or not at all the right places.
I've had the tingling in the fingers too at times. For me, I believe it was happening because I was grabbing onto the boom too tight. Once I loosened my grip and shook my hand out a little, the tingling went away. My buddy has a great saying. He says, "hold the boom like if you were playing the piano". That automatically makes me want to loosen my grip.
I've been using the therabar and it is helping. I also had an enforced 6 weeks off which helped it settle.

It has been a long winter
sboardcrazy, ive now got the flexbar. Seems ok to use so far (24hr). But i googled all kinds of stuff. Came across a physio link that said to massage firmly the OPPOSITE arm to the affected. But in exactly the same location as the injured arm pain. Haha i said. Opposite arm....Bah But did so anyway. Oddly enough the pain in the INJURED arm decreased significantly by massaging the uninjured arm. Which was also sore (different pain) but mostly very tight muscles. LIKE WOW!!! ![]()
Big forecast coming. Test time. Ohhh Yeah!!
Interesting.... I once saw a Chinese acupuncturist about tennis elbow and he needled me in opposite arm an I felt immediate relief to the affected arm. So much about our bodies that western medicine has no idea about!
Hey Alby, i tried the opposite arm thing when pain was most severe. It does actually work... Not sure if it was stretching the affected ligaments n muscles, which gave relief. Or its as you say an Eastern method in tune with body meridians etc. Yin yang thing. But it really did work.

It has been a long winter
Try living in Melbourne , it rained last time i sailed and i swear the drops turned into slushy balls. I knew i had feet but only cos i saw them , they were numb before i hit the water.
Living in Melbourne?? Who does that??? What on earth for??? Move north mate, move north. Flat water, rough water, 21'C mid winter water. Aaaahhhhhh....... Happy days. ![]()

That is sad. Now we know why ducks migrate. I once lived in Ballarat for two years then headed back to Queensland. You save a lot of money up here by not having a wardrobe full of winter clothes.
