Just to point out I do own a LT, but are fortunate to also sail raceboard and foil. I like the LT but don't think it should be our Olympic class
My apologies again
Honestly my Olympic views are bring back the mistral !
but if they want slalom free style course racing and marathon in the Olympics the Wally is the only option !
Stephan van den Berg returns to the Windsurfer LT for his campaign for the new century.

Nice Exocet RF foil board, not sure if its the 81 or 91.Even a crappy rig will get a foil out of the water !
So you don't need those exotic expensive sails with carbon booms and mast ?
Pity you don't answer the Question ??
No but you need a foil board or equivalent and of course some kind of foil. You will foil with a soft sail but wont win a PWA event. Hope that answers the question ![]()

No foot straps either
But even the LT's foil is not going to be cheap, or for class racing. It'll just be an add-on toy.
Exocet's problem is that the LT supply can't keep up with demand.
I wasn't sure if Mistral was in yet, although it's obvious from their blog articles that they follow the same ideals.
I only just realised that I've been wrong in saying that the LT is the world's second fastest-selling class. It turns out that Opti sales are slowing down so the LT is actually waaaay out in front.![]()

Not for long.

That's the problem a simple boat who's ethics are being destroyed by boat manufacturers who are bending the rules to gain a unfair advantage !

Like the Laser, its sales have dropped since it started foiling. And it's probably like the Laser in that foilers will be so slow upwind that they'll be slower all-round.
One data point that's interesting is that the cats have a very organised database of performance that they use to tune their rating rule, and nowadays they reckon that adding foils adds only 2% to a cat's speed. Obviously it's not bad, but it's less than adding a spinnaker normally adds, and the few people who reckoned adding assy kites to cats would change the future were dead wrong. Foiling's cool, but in most forms of sailing it's just a tiny niche with not much actual growth despite all the hype.
The Windsurfer is a bit of a reaction against the idea that a higher max speed and more complication and expense is the way forward, and the Windsurfer's way is clearly working.
This might be a bit left field. I'm going to be at Port Stephens for two weeks from Boxing Day. I don't get to train/race/sail with others too much, so if anyone happens to be about it would be cool to meet up. I'll be giving the kids lessons but also doing some solid (hopefully not solo) sailing.
so so sexy ![]()
"FUN",.. the proper reaction is to say/think 'Fun'. let's get this right and sell some product!

Now we're talking !!!!
Only one thing, the red dot on the sail should be on the leech.
Best looking LT yet, I bet it is faster as well. Makes me almost want one, are they available in Aus branded Mistral.
Seems every time I look at the forum the same 1 or 2 jokers are bagging people.
Raced my LT for first time Sunday against 2 other LT's and along with a fleet of Paper Tiger cats.
Took me a while to get an LT because while I love one design and fleet racing seemed like a backward step. I sometimes race a Mistral Prodigy hydrid race board.
The gear looked nice and sailed ok but few minor things...
- Centreboard very sticky
- Missed a footstrap to carry to water
- Without a boxy rail it was less comfortable to rail to windward.
- wobbly dead downwind-might be my bad balance
- Nose dived a little in swell
Strangely the old sail design wasn't too bad.
Couldn't keep up with PT's in case you wondering.

Agree especially with last bit of this post. Many obviously just want simple one design gear that can be raced in sub planing conditions.
Shame the 'new' race gear doesn't have footstraps etc though.
the old sail design is truly part of the thing with the Windsurfer and what makes it so much fun.
however. i agree re the footstraps.. whilst i enjoy sailing without straps to have the option would allow the use of much bigger sails and possibly broadened the church further.

Call Port Stephens Sailing Club. They have got back into windsurfing at soldiers point. We are doing a demo day up there in Feb. they seem really keen with plenty of old windsurfers getting the new LT.
THEY RACE EVERY WEEK with a mid week and weekend race I believe.
TORONTO amateur sailing club is hosting a demo day on 4th January, only an hour or so drive away.
lessons, short course racing or slalom depending on conditions. Hoping to get at least a dozen or so racers and the same number for demos as well...
