I had a 13 foot ZUMA sailboat, similar to Laser or Force 5, but less performance, made a jib from a Windsurf sail, ( it isn't fitted for one). It improved it a lot. This boat is often referred to a bathtub with a sail, the nose was not squared off.
With the long center board and jib, it did indeed perform better. Sailor ability was lacking btw
