Mr. HyperSonic has the best solution of all...

It's so simple you should keep him watered and feed whenever you meet the old koot...

For all Subsonics out there...just like everything that goes up it then must come down.

Everything that gets HOT must expand and everything that gets COLD must shrink.

Your options are:

1. Lay bottom half of mast in patch of shade with a wet-out rag wrapped around lower joint ( town water is approx 22 degrees Celsius ) and top half in direct sunlight so it gets HOT ( can reach 50+ degrees Celsius especially if it's BLACK ). Use your tactile sense of touch to determine that you have a 50-22=28+ degree TD-Temperature Differential. Should unlock with 'no hassle'

2. If it is really stuck after option 1. Soak mast joint with washing detergent concentrate and try option 1 again.

3. If it is really stuck after option 2. Use WD-40 or a better product that I use on my space ship when I'm on Mars called PENETRENE.

4. If it is still stuck after all this.... make yourself a "dolly". End grain timber or lump of material similar to mast material and use:

a HAMMER !!.....and go to town on Top joint.... so it expands.

5. If it is still stuck after this....use ADVANCED OPTION 1. Soak lower joint in liquid Nitrogen ( approx 4cents a liter and at minus -196 degrees Celsius )
pull out of nitro and pour boiling water over top half of joint. That's a TD of 196+100=296 degrees C..Hit it with a hammer...

6. It won't be stuck anymore it'll most likely be SHATTERED....

7. Throw it away and get another mast.

Cheers....from the brain of HyperSonic

Tools on top photo.

Bottom in action, the rope around the mast ends tightens in opposite directions, using wood and plastic gloves keeps the mast from being damaged.

This has worked every time, the left board needs to be secured, not necessary in a vise.

I have an old alloy boom that is stuck on one side. Any hints on how to open it up again?

Boom, alloy...
Spray with a liquid wrench type ,

Cushion the area to the extent possible, where you will then beat the **** outta it.

Option 2 tie one end to a secure post or such, the other end to your vechile .. something has to give

If the top section of your mast is "male" (NP Combat) you can borrow another top section and insert it into the bottom of the stuck mast. Actually this would work with any "male" piece that will fit. Make sure you make it really sandy first, insert it, and now twist it really hard.

This won't help but now you'll have 3 pieces stuck together which would be really funny. Post pics.
