You know something is an addiction, when it's the very first thing you think of after sex...
What if you think of it during sex?
Depends. Have your been for a sail before sex, or are you wanting to go for a sail after sex? Might say more about the sex than the addiction.
You know you are addicted when you pass up sex to go windsurfing!
"When you were learning did you almost rip your wetsuit trying to get it on in a hurry because there was a slight flutter on the water"
What you mean after 20 years you guys still don't do this.
Take your time Nath, you might find a spider in there! ![]()
To me it's a religion
Pray for wind, and god damn it if it doesn't blow. ![]()
I get bored of using the same sail and board everyday.
In medium to strong winds 18-25,windsurfing is about as close (on the water) as you are ever going to get to heaven.
My I-sonic 87 and a 5.5 in these conditions is so comfortable and fast!
So where is the answer to the question?
I think the signs are there. Give me a regular weekend sail to look forward to, either Saturday or Sunday and all is fine but throw in an extra days sailing mid week or even a couple of extra days and I am no happier I start to stress about how to sustain the new level of sailing, the craving increases, I begin to contemplate how to finance more days on the water. Should I sell a Kidney or maybe sell off a child for scientific research, could I somehow quit work and just sail everyday.....So my best guess is that its an addiction...

LOL. That was the king of all redbacks. Way bigger than I had ever seen before. And sitting in my shorty after just a couple of days hanging up. That would of been quite an experience. Glad I missed out on that one.
I don't think where addicted. I only check the forecast every couple hours and change all my work plans dependent on the wind.
That's not an addiction![]()

You would hate sailing an RSX... 220L and a 9.5 everyday and in every wind strength. ![]()
as "Coach" Jeff Hughes says
"Rock n Roll is addicting, sex is addicting, but this is the most addictive !!"
Yeah, I'd say so - I did leave work in the middle of the day today because I saw a few trees move!!!! Got a sweet sail in, back at my desk by 2:00pm. Hahaha, got to love the rush!!!!

Love your style man. Hmmm - midday windsurf. I could probably pull that one off if I planned well.
Already worked in one of the windier places in SA with a great roster.
Then took up windsurfing because it is something to do in the water before and after shifts at work.( 12days at work over last two weeks and 6 sails thrown in) and on leave( at home) plenty of time for activities. No surf in Whyalla.
Having found over the years that most people involved with water/wind sports are good to great people. Makes taking up a new activity an easy transition and very easy going with tips and info to make skill progression easier.
I now have windsurfing gear that covers SUP sailing in 5kts in small waves to belting around in 30kts+ with my arse to the ground ( mach 3+ catapults have been minimised not gone just minimised) Always good when the teabaggers pack up and only a windsurfer out. EB was at work that day.
My daughters enjoy going for a sail in the right conditions for them which is light winds and a nice beach. Which is a good day at the beach for wifey too. Barbies and a couple of coldies allround
Apparently wifey approves of surfing days better. Not as much wind needed and from a different aspect to the shore. But she still enjoys a few hrs reading mags with a Corona in the Ranger on a quiet beach on a Sunday arvo while I go for sail. A good wife.
At the end of the day I am having more days windsurfing then surfing and sailing put together (TOW). And most times I don't have to travel so far. And my family is enjoying it with me.
Addictions are personal. Lifestyles drag everybody in!
I reckon a mixture of water and wind is a lifestyle.
YES...YES...YES...people who don't windsurf never understand!!! e.g. Your at the families for Christmas and it blows 25 knots and they wonder why you don't want to stick around for opening the pressies (friggin rare for SE QLD to blow hard 8 am but anyway) = YES!
It's 6 am and looking out of the window that southerly that blew all night is gone (**!), and after pacing up and down I' m reduced to reading this crap about windsurfing being an addiction. I think I'll go out to the garage and look at my gear again.
