I was out the other day in 16-17 MPH winds with my 6.0 sail and the tail of the board was out of the water about 1 foot and the nose shot up about 6-7 feet off the 2 foot chop. I will post a video of this and have you guys see how high you could get from the conditions of the video. Curious if I could get more air than I'm getting.
Gotta find a lake to sail in first
I've seen Slowie do a 6ft high chop hop of off 3 inchs of chop with a speed board at cheesegraters
Speed equals height, the faster you go the higher you fly. Easy to get 10 feet up off 1 foot chop at 30 knots. Any faster and air traffic control rules apply.
2 foot swell ....4 -10 feet .
Its how long you can hold it up there for ...
sheet in and point the nose to the sky .![]()
Ok, here is me sailing doing some bump n jump. Do you guys think I could get more air than this based on the conditions here?
If i can add my opinion here, loosen your foot straps off to get your feet further in the straps.
You'll feel more secure and get more lift from the feet when jumping.
Really accentuate the "hop" (Like sparky's pic above), push the rig up over your head and bring the knees up to your chest.
Don't expect the wave to just boost you out of the water especially in what looks like marginal conditions. (10-15knts?)
One foot water starts, scissoring your legs to take the board more off the wind to get planing earlier... Both will allow you to sail a smaller board.

Need to pull your back leg up under your bum. Advantage is that also helps the board bear away
Have you thought about getting some video edit software? There's some good free ones about.
2.5 minutes to get in the footstraps was enough for me to lose interest, and i missed the actual B&J.![]()
Dragging your arse through that cold water to waterstart looks like an Eskimo's enema.![]()
Nice video. I reckon practice gybing with your front foot in the strap and water starting with one leg. Then worry about how high the chop jumps are. They will just happen.

Gopro Studio has the software, I just have to learn how it works. That's on the list.
Magicride, do you normally beachstart?
There aren't any beaches here where I launch, so I water start.

Thx! I found coming up on 2 feet on the board is easier on my knees than dragging 1 foot.
When I gybe, the reason I take the front foot out of the strap is because there is too much twist on my knee when I leave my front foot in the strap through the carve of the gybe. I understand what you're saying but I gotta obey my knees. I can run and jog, but when I hyperextended my knees 15 years ago, my knees don't work as well in certain positions.
I will try lifting my legs up higher in order to lift the board higher when jumping. Also I'm going to apply much more back foot pressure when I approach the chop to get more spring and pop to my jumps. I know I'm not doing those 2 things enough.

You don't need a beach to beach start, just hip deep water.

It's hip deep at the shore, so I guess you could say I beach start off the shore line. There can be a wind shadow by the shore, so sometimes I drag myself out a little like in the video away from the wind shadow and waterstart.

My footstraps are loosened as far as they go, plus I have booties on. The straps feel fine to me.
For it to count as a jump, doesn't the board have to lose contact with the water? As far as I can see the board was kicking up spray all the way through.
