Definately Mountain Bikes after the event.. All booked and can't wait to get on the island! After 10 weeks of sitting on my ass doing didly squat! There was now way I would miss out on GI. The 5 broken ribs and smashed up wrist will just have to get their sh#t together. Just hoping the bit of bone below joins back to the party, in time to enjoy a social sail at least! See you all there ![]()

Just wondering whether casual sailing is permitted on GI during the competition? I have never been to GI before, have a trip booked in the last two weeks of July, not sure what to expect

You can sail at Green Island any time you like year round - you may want to stay out of the "race" area though during the heats ![]()

There were quite a few non competitors in 2019, out just enjoying the delights. Come, enjoy. The more sails the merrier I reckon.

I'd like to sail there sometime. Can you leave your gear on the island if you go at other times? E.g- go across in the ferry daily but leave the gear on the island?

Hey Sue, there is a shed, where we all store gear. It can be safely left there. It's where the lifesavers hang out in front of the swimming area.
Looks like I will be locked out due to Sydney lockdown. Bugger. Bet that Qld lifts entry restrictions the day G I starts just to rub it in. Enjoy.
If you think that sounds pissed off you are very perceptive. But let the glass be half full. At least Muz won't have to worry about me beating him again. And the new board purchased for G I will go its second year without use, that's great, less wear and tear. And my new fin won't get smashed on the reef. And I won't risk death on the MTB park. And I will save a ****load of dough. And the grass will be closely watched.

Bit of a defeatist attitude Bruce
looks a little like you are taking the easy excuses, lockdown finishes on Friday 16th, still ample time for an old bloke like you to pack your bags and head up. See you on the start line

It could be worse. They could let you in and the next day request to self-quarantine in the hotel for two weeks
Hope it helps![]()
Melbourne seems to be allowed, it's going to be my first time sailing on GI, just curious what's the best place to stay in Cairns?
At this stage all go looking forward to it it has been a few years now for me.
like Muz said Sydney hopefully come out of lockdown in a week so still more than possible Bruce.cross fingers and toes.I have been told by organisers if you do register and then you go into lockdown so unable to make due to this you will get your money back so don't stress on that part and join if you think you can make it at this stage.
If Sydney exits lockdown Friday 16th when do you reckon qld will open border? Shortly after event ends?
I will take off for Qld if possible but still going glass half full.
You don't want to know what half empty looks like.
Its not looking good for flying out of Sydney for a while. I cancelled my travel bookings on Wednesday when the lockdown extension was announced, if things improve then I can rebook and get to the briefing and sign on. Have entered anyway, we are very lucky to have an event like this in Australia, the experience of racing at GI is the best! I was so looking forward to the margaritas too.
I am worried about state of origin at Newcastle a 15000 person Petri dish
More cultured Covid than a 20 year old bucket of yoghurt!

Yeah how come sport comes above community safety? ![]()
Socially Distanced in this arena..
Sharing our kinda blues for our (NSW) "Blues"...
Hoping everyone can make our own State of Origin
Here's to that glass being half full - and then some- on 26 July.
Fantastic to share everyone's support and encouragement.
Spirit of the event. And as we know, that karma goes a long way.

Commonsense prevailed. ( or $ as usual). They weren't allowed to have spectators at Newcastle so they've moved it to Qld..phew.. ![]()
My Son went to watch the Union game at Suncorp. Rule was mask up unless smoking drinking or eating. He said apparently there seemed to be a lot of smoking eating n drinking going on. Eg not many masks.
OHH REALLY !!! Who would've thought....![]()
Anyway back to the GI NATS.
Keep those cool pics coming.
Some of us are landlocked for some time...
Training continues in the cold rivers all over Tas . plenty of ice and single digit water temps have me dreaming in green.
Cant wait to get back to this spectacular and ideal location for such a well organised event!! Super tough times to organise any event and I would like to throw thanks towards the organisers for pushing on in challenging times .
I have been waiting 3 years for this one and it sure is a shame some may not be there but all I can say is .. It's worth the wait. Fingers crossed for best outcomes for everyone.
