^^ ... have you ever wondered why each state has their own driving-license? .... it doesn't make any sense given the laws across Australia are *almost* uniform. [ So just make them uniform. ]

There needs to be local delegations such as state-gov and local-gov because that is effective management of resources.
But some/lots of laws should be nationalised, so that they are consistent across the continent.

[ And laws need sunset clauses - so that they are reviewed for relevancy. ]

No I have not, because different states (and areas within them) have very different circumstances and requirements. Blanket rules never suit everyone and in many cases do not make any sense whatsoever in different places and circumstances.

Consistency does not automatically mean 'good' or 'relevant'.

with all the media coverage, and different rules for different states, and frequently changing rules, it can be quite hard to follow (unless you spend the day watching the covid coverage/monitoring gov websites)

Which pretty much EVERYONE is doing actually, as we are stuck inside in front of the giggle box.

Sorry, no time for more comments. I have to go windsurfing for my daily exercise.

I have a bung knee so I can't run or cycle.Walking aggravates the arthritis in my toe joints. But Windsurfing makes me puff and pant, so windsurfing it is!

Its not me saying these things its marine rescue/emergency services and sailing Aust. you should be complaining to.
Just think its time to think of others, help those that are there to help us. That's the message the emergency services and sailing aust. are pleading for you to follow.
But, if you don't feel any need to support them, that's your choice.

The guy below probably thought the same as you before he went out " Naaaa, will never happen to someone like me"

I hope you posted this in the bagging forums as well, probably more pertinent if you look at the stats.

I just had a quick look in the bagging forums, what! No posts from you guiding your comrades on assisting maritime services to have a quiet time! You haven't have you????? You bought an LT didn't you???

Yes there are threads in the kiters forum, and nsw kiters forum.
Seems that community is responding more respectfully to the emergency services advice, most anyway.
No comments of F@k it, the emergency crew sign up for risk, that's their problem etc.
Starting to wonder why should we bother trying to slow the spread, when its only killing the oldies (windsurfing community) and they don't seem to care if others may be put at risk for their non essential hobby.

The sentiment in those threads seems to be no different to whats being said here, if anything it appears to be a bit more dismissive of advice than anything thats been said here.

if you're struggling with the idea that teabagging and windsurfing can be done with complete social distancing, without increasing infection risk to emergency services then go blow lots of wind somewhere other than the windsurfing forums.

COVID-19 update for Western Australian boaties, paddlers, windsurfers and kiteboarders

This Easter, the Department of Transport is urging boat owners to stay at home, where you can, and to play your role in limiting the spread of COVID-19 by postponing unnecessary boating activity. The advice is very clear - you should stay in your home where you can to protect yourself and others from COVID-19 and from potentially spreading the disease.

Only leave for essential activities such as work, shopping for food, exercise or medical appointments.

If your boating needs are essential and you decide to go out, social distancing rules apply - at the boat ramp and on your boat. You should only be on your boat with no more than one other person; or with family who ordinarily live in the same household as you.

If you windsurf, kiteboard, kayak or paddle and consider it essential for your wellbeing, please observe social distancing.

Visit our website www.transport.wa.gov.au/aboutus/covid-19.asp for all the current information. We all need to do what is right for our community at this time, and support our Marine Officers, WA Police and Marine Rescue volunteers who do a vital job and carry out essential work in the boating community. It is idiotic that a person requires a different driving-license, if they were to move-house 6 minutes down the road.

There certainly should be different laws/regulations for some aspects of society - a law for Kalgoorlie WA, shouldn't necessarily be the same as that for Cairns QLD. But some laws are essentially the same country-wide - such as driving licenses - having differing groups managing the same thing, is unnecessarily cumbersome and wasteful.

I will note that deciding which laws should be applied Federally vs State vs Local, isn't simple.

So can I drive up to Budgewoi on Saturday from Sydney and sail without risk of getting a fine if I social distance whilst on shore?

Yes you can but you should not. Stay home do us all a favour. The better we do this as a community the shorter time we have to do it for.

Not anymore if its a different postcode.
Police in nsw now giving fines to surfers/windsurfers/kiters etc. if outside their postcode, ie have traveled from their home area for their leisure/exercise activity. Which to be honest we all already knew was true but bend things to suit our needs/wants
