I am in a love hate relationship with coffee. There are two genetic backgrounds when it comes to caffeine degradation, 1) fast degradation so you can drink in evening and go to sleep no problem, and 2) slow degradation so one cup or shot in the morning keeps you jacked all day, that is me! Just love it, and improves my endurance for windfoiling, or any other sport. Problem is it has side effects, as I have gotten older it makes me piss all the time, and not just during the day, but at night too wake up 4-5 times to piss, just getting ridiculous. Trying to have coffee only 1X per week, but that means one day I am pissing all the time. Without coffee I can get a solid nights sleep without having to wake up even once to piss. Anyone else have this issue with coffee? I only drink organic coffee and grind beans fresh (keep whole beans in freezer). Like I said, love that cup in the morning, Vietnamese style or expresso, but the pissing is killing the buzz!

And it also affects my digestion, speeds it up so I do not get as much nutrients from my food.

And decaf does the same pissing wise. Maybe I will try tea, do not remember that causing me to piss.

How old are you? That's the main question about peeing, especially at night. It's the ole prostate ya know. Every guy's prostate enlarges as he ages. Can't avoid it. Some seed oils mitigate that, but it's inevitable. A great example is raw pumpkin seed oil from Austria. On salads. Good stuff and tastes good. It is a cultural mainstay in Styria. And you hear these radio and tv ads for prostate supplements. They also are based on seed oils.

I make one or two decaf espresso americanos every morning. Not lattes since I don't want that much milk.

Nothing to do with my prostate!, because if I do not drink coffee I am fine day and night. An enlarged prostate makes it harder to urinate, coffee is a diuretic so you produce more urine and if your prostate is not enlarged will have to piss more. Enlarged prostrate will make pissing harder with or without coffee, and I know that from pseudoephedrine which I use as a decongestant and also makes my prostate swell temporarily.

Caffeine does not improve physical performance it just make you feel better/more alert. It's also useful for weight lose.
It defiantly doesn't improve your endurance.

Oh it does improve endurance for me!, but then again I degrade caffeine very slowly, have tested it in several sports, swimming definitely helps and that is against other swimmers, and backpacking in the mountains too, mountain biking the same, and of course windsurfing and windfoiling. Caffeine suppresses the pain from your muscles as they go anaerobic and increases blood flow too, and stimulates the release of adrenaline.

Enlarged prostate pushes on your bladder meaning you feel the need to piss more often, it doesn't make pissing harder.

Coffee is a diuretic, but has a much smaller effect than alcohol.

Are you speaking from experience? I know two men who had enlarged prostates, the treatment was to use a laser to burn away part of the prostate that was pressing on the urethra, in order to allow urination and complete emptying of the bladder. Prostate in a normal male is the size of a walnut, sure it gets larger but not sure it gets large enough to affect the bladder. But by pressing on the urethra it prevents a male from completely emptying their bladder, so they feel the need to urinate more often because their bladder never gets emptied, but have a difficult time urinating because it restricts the urethra, see pictures below with bladder above the prostate and urethra running through the prostate, urethra gets pinched off by enlarged prostate in picture on the right.

Mentally yes physically no unless your drinking 9mg per kilo of body's weight an hour or so before exercise then you might a couple of % but you won't be sleeping for a while.

Yes, I speak from experience, I was diagnosed with an enlarged prostate and subsequently had it removed due cancer last year. I had no symptoms other than pissing slightly more than usual. I had no problem pissing at all.

I have a similar response to tea not coffee but only getting up once to wee .Day 1 of 'coffee riddance' . Rock up to work very early in the am only to see my relatively new subaru wagon self driving back down the hill violently fusing with a banana truck . Coffee def increases mental performance .

Not mentally, it is physical for me, very noticeable effect, but again I degrade caffeine slowly which means one shot of expresso at 8 am will keep me going all day long (12hrs) without the need for food or water! It is great when I have a long backpack out of the mountains with a 35lb pack (little food left) to get back to the trailhead parking lot, even the guys in their 20's can not keep up with me.

that is good to know, and sorry to hear, never like to lose a body part. Guess your prostate enlargement was not pressing on the urethra, the two men I knew who had enlarged prostates and had the laser surgery did not have cancer.

Mine was confirmed by biopsy before and after surgery. I'm only 56, a mate has just turned 50, had his removed too. A rising PSA was the only indication, hopefully they got it before it spread, time will tell.

Have your blood tests every year, they are free. Then follow your doctors/specialists guidance.

Do not know about bbq kangaroo, but would certainly try it! As for Fosters, we get the oil cans here and it is a good smooth beer, though it is brewed in Canada. Hopefully some day will visit Australia have have them both

If you get good whole roasted beans (store in freezer) and grind and brew yourself, yes. Trader Joes had some whole bean expresso roast that was sublime!, just the aroma of the freshly ground beans was intoxicating.

Sorry, looks like you are just giving your opinion, which is fine, but wrong in this case. See bottom where they talk about the benefits of caffeine in swimming!

Here is another good discussion about caffeine and endurance with references that include links to peer reviewed publications.
www.healthline.com/nutrition/caffeine-and-exercise#endurance-performance

www.trainingpeaks.com/blog/caffeine-and-the-endurance-athlete/

Caffeine And The Endurance Athlete BY PACIFIC HEALTH LABORATORIES

Caffeine is a naturally occurring chemical compound that functions in the body mainly as a mild nervous system stimulant. It has been shown to enhance performance in sprints, in all-out efforts lasting 4-5 minutes, and in longer performance tests.

Performance And Caffeine
It appears caffeine enhances performance in shorter events through four interrelated neuromuscular effects:
Lowering the threshold for muscle recruitment.
Altering excitation contraction coupling.
Facilitating nerve impulse transmission.
Increasing ion transport within muscles.

In longer events, caffeine delays fatigue by reducing the athlete's perception of effort. It increases the concentration of hormone-like substances in the brain called beta-endorphins during exercise. The endorphins affect mood state, reduce perception of pain, and create a sense of well-being. Caffeine has also been found to delay fatigue during exercise by blocking adenosine receptors on fat cells. As a result, caffeine increases the level of free fatty acids in the bloodstream and thereby increases fat burning during exercise. This latter effect of caffeine used to be considered the major mechanism by which it enhanced endurance performance, but it is now known to be a minor factor. In fact, for those who normally maintain a high-carbohydrate diet it is virtually a non-factor. A number of studies have shown significant performance increases in various endurance disciplines following caffeine ingestion. In one study, elite runners improved their time in a treadmill run to exhaustion by 1.9% with caffeine. Caffeine boosted time to exhaustion in a cycling test by 15 minutes in another study. And in a study involving swimmers, caffeine was found to enhance performance in maximal-effort swims of up to 25 minutes'

Visit an anti aging clinic.
Will not be cheap but worth it.
They will do a lot of test that your normal doc will not do not to burden the health care system.

I got put on thyroid meds, trt and a ton of vit d and other supplements. First 3/6 months is figuring out right dosages.
Now I look/feel much better, gained 10kg mainly muscle (I use the gym 1 x per week. 1 x per week windsurfing and a lot of walking with the dog). Lost almost all belly fat. I had to get out of bed to use the toilet also, this disappeared within 1 month.

Cannot recommend it enough.
Expect double costs as your significant other will complain about how you look and wants the same.
