I'm not against SS. But there are a lot of foil options available. If one is looking at the traditional windsurf players, one is looking in the wrong spot. The most innovative brands are the smaller ones who aren't the big "all-in-one" guys we are accustomed to. It's a new sport and new names have emerged, e.g. SS who until a couple of years ago wasn't really even a windsurf company.
Thanks ![]()
Fair enough, I'd forgotten about Horue, we don't see much of their gear here.
They were certainly early into windfoiling, I remember frothing over their vids a few years ago.
Slingshot foils might not be the shiniest, but I reckon they outsell everything else in the freeride/wave sector here because the gear is proven to work - for beginners and more advanced riders in challenging conditions.
I've never seen the foils or boards majorly discounted in Oz - the price is equivalent to other competing brands.
Ive got an original Horue GP foil set you can have a go on JJ. :))))

Hi Romain, just want to say BIG THANK YOU for outstanding after sales support from you and SlingShot!
I raised my product complaint Monday this week and already now before lunchtime Wednesday, I got your package with the missing air-vent screw for the Levitator 150 board and also a brand new Infinity fuselage, where all holes and the internal screw threading is done as supposed to. That is top-end five star customer service in my book!
I know some/one on this forum called my subject here for 'boring' or too much 'slingshot'. But where else should we windfoil beginners then go instead to learn from the seasoned experts and each other? And why even then return later if we are not allowed to be sharing brand specific issues/ideas/advice on this forum here?

Cyber, dont let one comment dissuade you. Glad you got the help you needed. Good luck and tell us how it goes.
Like it or not, Slingshot is big in the market. They were early, they made gear that people could learn on (still do), and their prices were more affordable than most others.
Everybody has had quality problems from time to time. However, since most dealers are gung-ho crazy about customer support, quality problems are fairly easy to mitigate. We see examples of this all the time. Kudos to the dealers, and to the manufacturers behind them.
I have four foils, none of which are Slingshot as it turns out. Mine are AFS, LP, factory Moses, and a Bellacera hybrid. Again, even in a place where you can get just about any windfoiling gear you want, there is a reason why Slingshot is huge in the Columbia Gorge, with the i76 leading the way.
Windfoilers got lucky with Slingshot. The guys who founded it are very open-minded, and interested in all kinds of water sports (including snow). When kiting, they got quite big. When kit foils came out, they were at the forefront. Many windsurf stores in the US already sell kite gear, so Slingshot was already in many stores. They had considerable experience with foils from kite foiling. The kite business also gave them enough financial muscle to weather some setbacks (like splitting front wings) while being great about honoring warranties.
Slingshot's pricing is actually not that great. The list price for a foil is around $1250, and shops tend to stay quite close to that. Other brands sell foils of comparable construction for similar or lower prices, and older foils are often listed much lower than older Slingshot foils. For example, 2019 foils from Starboard can be found for less than $900. The $1700 deals for board and foils that Slingshot had were for boards that they discontinued and replaced with better models; discounts for Wizards and Infinity foils are a lot lower. The prices for current boards are around $2000 and up, comparable to some other brands. Of the newbie foilers I have seen, most had Slingshot foils, but only a few of them had the cheap boards. Most either bought a current Slingshot board, or a foil board from another maker, or are using a windsurf board they already had or got for cheap.

Aloha everybody,
Hope that all of you and your dearest are staying safe and healthy!
Due to the Covid-19 situation, then the country is in total lock down, so the prospect of going out on the water and enjoy some flying into the Easter break looks more and more dim...
However, it has given me some more time to try and rig the whole thing up, new Ezzy sails, masts, boom, mastfoot, powerjoint to Levitator board etc. All working and fitting perfectly! I love all the integrated rope pulleys etc, which make optimal rigging to mast length and alo boom length an easy task.
But. And there is always a but... The SlingShot Infinity 84cm came with a hoard of screws/bolts and components. Clear as it then is able to be fitted to any type of board or situation you may want to use it for.
But here is the but: The fuselage is really really supertight to fit into the front main wing. The fuselage was like not sliding in longer than like 3 cm from the final end point to where it absolutely needs to go, to match the screw/bolt holes in the main wing. So is one to use a rubber hammer or what for that last inch? Already now, I have the trouble of it being completely stuck together, so anybody out there with some hints on how to pull the fuselage out of the main wing again please? I do not dare to hammer on the thin wing edge for this to happen, so what tricks do you know about to separate the two from each other again?
I can only foresee this to be an even bigger problem when standing out on the beach, with sand and water in the mix... =8-!
Or have you all somehow been grinding the fuselage a bit down or how to make this fit better together?
I totally get it why Slingshot wants to avoid any wiggling between the foil components, but this appear way too tight for practical usage (assembly and disassembly).
Hope some of you may have some magic tricks on this based on your practical experience?

Hi Cyber (again)
I ran into this same problem with my infinity 99. Super hard to get on, relative to my prior wings. I believe this is a good thing as the wing will be less prone to vibration. Some people with the early 84 have felt the need to add a 4th screw others added some kind of tape as the wing would loosen eventually.
I have also heard the go foil wings have a very tight connection to the fuselage that requires a mallet. (but I might be wrong)
To get my 99 on I didn't feel comfortable using a mallet so I took the stabilizer shim off the rear and holding the fuselage vertically with the wing up I hit the end of the fuse on a block of wood and it jarred the wing into place. Zero chance of it becoming loose, which is nice.

Hi (again) the door! ;o)
So does that mean that you never intend to separate the fuselage from the frontwing then again?
Didnt even think about that before, but maybe the front wing staying assembled to the fuselage still fits into the travel/storage bag that the infinity foil came in? But it will also mean then, that I am not going anytime easy then to try and switch to a smaller wing on the day I might have several options in my gear bag?
Should I just be happy for the tight fit, and leave it as is?
And that is it, never to be separated again...?
As total newbie to the wind foiling not sure on the long-term consequences of this...

Thank you WillyWind,
In my situation I bought it all direct from SlingShot. And the Infinity 84cm came in a nice big James-Bond-007 sniper style bag, that you zip open and inside, there is a separate zipped location for every single component of the foil. But as you may have seen in my messaging above, then the original fuselage was entirely missing the drainings inside 4 of the end holes in the fuselage. So the rear wing and its screws could not be mounted at all. So they kindly quickly shipped to me a new fuselage. It looks all OK, but I can confirm that it simply does not slip into the main 84cm front wing as the original (but screw hole faulty) fuselage did. When pushing to the end as hard as you can with your hands, then I can see I still miss to get it around 6 cm further in. I can also notice that when I pull the fuselage back out again from the front wing, then I have already some 'scrape marks' now at the front end of the fuselage, where it looks as the black color is being scraped off and you now see shiny blank metal instead. So this new 'replacement' fuselage is obviously a very tight fit now into that front wing.
Observing this difference between the two 'supposedly identical fuselages' in outer shape and dimensions, then its obvious that Slingshot do have a problem with absolute size variation in their manufacturing of their components!
So question is now for me what to do?
Should I try and sand paper a bit on the fuselage?
Anything I can do to the main wing, to make it slightly more smooth on the inside in the hole for the fuselage?
When I got it from new, there were even a few edgy 'burrs' sticking out (think you call it burrs in english, when small little rough edges are sticking out from like the end opening hole).
And as it appears it will be hell on earth to separate the two pieces ever again from each other, after I probably now will have to use a rubber mallet to get the main front wing pushed all onto the fuselage, should I then go for the C fuselage setup or the B fuselage setup?
Important, as I do not think I will be able to separate those two components ever again from each other.
Sad situation, as that Luxury Infinity 84cm foil bag will not be able to hold the front wing with the fuselage mounted at same time. So I will not be able to use that ever again or for transporting my Infinity 84cm foil...
Not impressed with such poor quality control of their stuff and variation from one unit to the next they produce...
Yes, there was indeed an error on this fuselage, and the screw and the brochure disappeared somewhere.

When I bought my slingshot foil, it came with the H2 wing (I believe that was the model number). I then bought the infinity 84 wing and it did not fit in the fuselage (it only slided in two-three cm). I contacted slingshot ( bought the foil directly from them) and two/three days later I received a new fuselage and it worked perfectly.
I would then contact SS directly (you can call them) before you sand the fuselage and press it in forever. You could also send pictures and very short videos showing the problem to their customer service email. They normally get back to you right away.
I know all this is frustrating but you will forget about it as soon as you hit the water.
good luck and keep us posted.
Just took the faulty fabricated fuselage and used that to test out, what is missing/causing the fuselage not to fit into the main wing. After trying to push in, dissemble again, repeatedly again and again, then i get these scratch marks onto the very end of the fuselage. (Some internal misshape or too tight fitting inside the fuselage hole on the main wing must cause these scratches to come onto the fuselage itself.). So the black color of the fuselage appear to be painted onto the fuselage, or some kind of just surface treatment/anodization or something to make it appear black. As just behind, its stainless steel or aluminium or what ever metal its made of?
Here first a photo of the scratch marks now coming onto the fuselage:

And this is how far it gets into the main wing using a fair amount of force, just by hand. No rubber mallet or anything. So it appears as i miss still around 4 cm, as that is distance now from small screw hole in the main wing to the threaded screw hole for that screw in the fuselage...

Now using my correctly threaded fuselage, which SlingShot sent me to replace the faulty fabricated one. And it fits even worse into the 84cm Infinity front wing. 6cm missing for it to get far enough in, to get to the screw holes sitting aligned between the wing holes and the fuselage holes....
Repeatedly inserting it and dissembling it. Again and again. Getting the scratch marks on the fuselage tip, where its getting stuck against the inside of the main wing....
Been grinding down by handheld 'sandpaper' for metal use...
Now i then repaint those areas again on the fuselage, with a blue permanent filtpen marker....
This way, when i try and reassemble the main wing and fuselage again, then i will again see where the scratch marks still appear and know where it needs a bit more sandpapering....
Hope this will work in the end...

Several grinding, then paint, then fit, then extract, then repaint, then grind some more - sessions later, this is now how much has been grinded off...

And it appears as if i am now getting very close to making it fit!
Its like just 1cm more and it should be inserted to correct location!
for comparison, i laid down the faulty fuselage that missed the screw hole threading in just above next to it, so you can see 'how little' that had to be sandpapered away on the tip of that, to make that fit perfectly into the main wing hole.
So based on those observations, its 100% certain that SlingShot do not have their production of the long fuselages under proper control, as the actual dimensions of the fuselage are varying greatly from one unit to the next unit!
I am not able to question the accuracy of the hole in the front wing itself, as that may also be off. But since the two fuselages are not fitting in the same way into the same wing, then its perfectly certain to conclude that the manufacturing of the fuselage is not under proper control as the factual dimensions are different from one unit to the next....

OK, after more grinding down, i am now able to slide it into position when using great force and momentum of the weight of the fuselage. I just made a video, on which you first can see all the areas that have been grinded down, as the fuselage would under no circumstance be able to get into the main wing and into the position for the screws and bolts to be securing it in correct position without this! You can also see that the blank metal areas lightning up, are the last areas that got grinded more after last repainting of those areas with my blue filt tip pen marker.
And to get the front wing and the fuselage separated again after hard sliding them together is near impossible. Takes 10 minutes and two people to wrestle it apart again. Its hard to understand if this is really how its supposed to be?
I hope the joy of flying one day will make up for all this unbeliever trouble to make a very costly and brand new foil wing fit together. This is definitely not an acceptable standard as its not at all able to be put together as out of the box.
Not impressed and not amused...
Cyber are you sliding that thing in dry? You want to be using some kind of lubricant for sure - either Tefgel or another teflon marine grease or the sheep-lanolin which came with the SS. Sorry to hear it's such a struggle!

Yes Awalkspoiled, so far all dry! Thought it would be wrong to put oil/grease into the mix here, as that would also attract sand when getting onto the beach. But do you propose i give it a little dot to help it slide better?
My Inf84 is so sloppy/wobbly on the fuse, that I to put tape on the fuse to get a tight fit.![]()
Darn allesad, sounds then that SlingShot have gone way extreme in the opposite direction now to make sure its overly tight instead. Matter of fact, so tight it cannot even be inserted at all.... ??
Doesnt seem to be my day here today, so cannot upload the video i just made with my oldish iPad here to this forum? So will give you a few screenshots from it instead... first here you see all the grinding off from the fuselage, before it could fit into the Infinity 84 wing...

IMHO
1) Beware Galvanic corrosion. Carbon/Al/Stainless steel.
2) Follow the advice for lubrication given by the Sages, in this forum, and Slingshot..
3) If you are getting a new fuse from the shop ensure that they fit it successfully into the wing.
4) Is there a SS owner near you to check (socially distancing off course).
Good Luck.
I remember my friend bought a mast from a well known sailmaker who contracted out to a manufacturer. A short mast extension would fit but not a long one. Image his surprise when he tried to rig at the beach; suffice to say he got his money back.

Thanks Woody!
I bought it all together as huge bundle from the SlingShot reseller, who also was so kind to quickly react and send me a new fuselage without the manufacturing errors there were in the first one they shipped to me.
but now coming across the next major disaster.
I am getting near exploding of anger now, with all these serious errors with this SlingSlot sent me... will take photos and send to you in a few minutes.
unbelievable poor quality in this set i got from them!
So here we go!
it is total disaster really now with this poor Slingshot Infinity fuselage and then now poor Infinity 84cm wing!
The cut out in the main wing for the mast cap is not sitting in the center!
so now the mounting bolts coming through the fuselage are not able to get into the mast cap holes at all, as they are several millimeters off to the right side, as you can see here on the photo. The cut out in the main wing was supposed to be in the centre. But looking at it now, its obvious that the cut out is off to the left side. Thereby making it impossible to mount the wing with the bolts coming through the fuselage from opposite side and then out here, where they are supposed to go into the mast cap piece of metal i hold in my hand here, next to...
That is obviously not possible, as the mast cap going into the wing cut out is off by several millimetres for the bolts to be able to enter those holes.
i start really to get sooooo angry and upset now. Thorough piece of useless low quality junk, that cannot be put together at all!

Try and see here how much off to the left the cut-out for the mast cap plate is in my 84cm Infinity wing!
Reason why, the mounting bolts coming through from the fuselage cannot line up and enter into the mast cap and its holes, which have to sit tight into the cut out for this in the 84cm wing.
Clearly with all the previous trouble i documented above and now this additional production error that makes assembly impossible, then this is all in all a horrible poor and utterly useless package that I have recieved from SlingShot.
Time to call my reseller again again...
Send me something that works or I need/demand all my money back!
Enough of this nonsense!

Yes, everything that turns or slides should be lubricated and re-lubricated regularly. It's not going to collect sand much as long as you don't disassemble right on the beach, but it'll be impossible to take apart if you ride it in seawater without lubricant. Your picture of the drilling alignment is very disturbing. I'd send the pic right to Slingshot who are usually really responsive, but in these times who knows?
