You can find rubber grommets that fit in the track. Gong sell them too.
Just fit them on either side of the nuts.
G'day,
I did quite some foiling with the Armstrong HS1550 last year, combined with a Horue Tiny with a second set of US-boxes in front of the original ones. It was okay and I would still be riding with that combo if we were not at a pretty gusty spot. The 1550 is lacking some acceleration and has a bit too low Vmax. Every time a gust hits you either open the sail or you need to shift your weight to the back, as the sail accelerates the board but the foil can't cope it. It is doable, but it was not relaxing. I gave up on it, bought a Moses 790 and played with that until recently.
I did a lot of wingfoiling the last 4 months and when I realized, that the 2400 front-wing is just not made for wind-driven sports on gusty spots. First I ordered the HS1850 which has been my favorite wing since then. When the HS1250 came out I immediately ordered it as a high-wind front-end for wing-dinging. A youngster in our club couldn't get access to his gear one day, so I offered him to test the HS1250 with my windfoil-board. And that was sort of a game-changer. The HS1250 is the first Armstrong front-wing I would recommend for windfoiling, unless you are lucky to have constant wind. The 1250 with uni-tail and 0 or +1 shim is really capable. It has tons of lift and great acceleration. The top speed is great for windfoiling and it can keep up with the dedicated free ride windfoils.
I sold the Moses after only a short session with the HS1250 front-wing. Unfortunately I sold my Horue Tiny as well, as I want to build a board that is designed for my needs. But I still have a Smik Hipster with foil-boxes...
If you have a slightly wobbling front-wing, there is an easy fix. I do have a spare fuselage, as I had a similar problem with my first set-up and they just send a new one... I gave it a light rub with grit240, degreased it and shot two or three layers of cheap rattle-can clear-coat. That was already too much, so I had to sand it back a bit, as the wings got stuck on it. I did have around 10 sessions on that fuselage and it is still snug.
Best regards,
David
Hi guys - going back to this thread. I have the SS Infinity 76 and 84, and ride them on an SS 115 Freestyle. Curious about anyone using the Armstrong foils for wind, and any feedback. Looking for something lighter, stiffer, and with a better mechanical connection than the SS.
I had been using i84 and i99 but decided to get an Armstrong foil due to its reported very light weight and good performance on wingfoiling. I will be getting mine in a week and looking forward to testing. As far as my search, there is no youtube video for Armstrong foils to decide for windsurf foiling. I got a message from someone who had used CF2400 wing but he was not pleased with the drag and switched to HS1850 and very pleased with it. Therefore, I also purchased HS1850 with the 80 cm fuselage as that is recommended for windsurfing but I will also try for wingfoiling.
Since I am a heavy rider (220 lbs), I primarily use i99 and if HS1850 does not perform on light wind conditions, I may also get CF2400 despite the drag.
I finally received my 1850 Armstrong with 85 mast and 80 fuselage/HS232. I have been so far primarily using Slingshot 84 and 99 so far but I wanted a lighter carbon foil set-up for my levitator 160 lt. I was able go out today gusting 15-20 mph range and used Goya 6.3 m fringe X. My runs were similar to what I experienced with infinity foil and very satisfied with its performance. Since it is a medium aspect foil it felt a little faster than i99. Taking the screws on the track is not easy each time. I hope they find a some practical solution like Naish system. I am still not able to foil jibe so I could not comment on that. Since the surface area is in between i76 and i84, it will not perform like i99 for lifting on low wind days. I am considering to get CF2400/300 backwing so I could go out on 10-15 mph days since my weight is 220 lbs.
Thanks for the feedback! I am still considering, but may wait to see what else comes out on the market over the next few months - I tried to contact Armstrong directly and while they initially had some good feedback, they didn't get into my tougher questions. They recommended small foils - they told me the HS1550 was too big and were pushing me to HS 1250 and 1050 as "big" wings, even though I ride more freestyle (no bigger than a 5.3 Duotone Superhero with an i84 and an i76 - I weigh 175 (80 kilos) or so). The pics they sent showed someone riding a far bigger cammed sail with outboard straps, so I think that they were in that mindset when they made the recommendations. So, I followed up, explained my gear and how I want more lift, asked about top speeds (On the GoFoils I really notice the slower top end speeds) and asked about the geometry of the mast position. Their response was to re-recommend the 1250 and 1050 . . . . I think they are just much more focused on wing and kite, unfortunately.

For what it is worth I have the 1550 with 850 mast and 70 fuse and find it amazing, whilst still inexperienced have been out in only the lighter wind ranges 8-15 kts in open ocean and am amazed at its low end speed and am experimenting with its higher speeds which for me are quick, ease to pump up and over all control are great.
my next wing will be the 1250 for the 15-25kt bracket(still have a way to go to handle these conditions)
I came off a GT set up and this change totally revolutionised my foiling
NB board is a 114 Wisard

Awesome - that is really helpful! I'm on the SS Freestyle 115 - sounds like we may have similar set ups. Do you mind sharing your weight/sail size?

Am about 95kg for light wind have been using 5.3 blade which pumps up in around 12kts
for 10-18kts use the 4.8
have found the board hard to uphaul in swell and need to practice for those light days but generally found i only need to wait for a gust to water start
Just put two strips of closed cell soft foam in the bottom of the tracks, this holds the plates in position but allows them to be moved if required. Then it is just a matter of putting the foil on the board and installing the screws, no alignment needed.
Great idea!
A simple solution to an annoying problem. Installed and works like a charm. Thanks for sharing.
I was finally able to try my new CF2400 wing on low windy day. I used -2 degree shim with 80 cm fuselage and 85 cm mast on a Levitator 160 lt board. Compared to HS1850 wing, significantly slower but very stable once it lifts up. I was able to foil on 10-12 mph day with 7.0 Flyer foil sail but I prefer 1850 wing since it is faster. I feel that I will be able to practice jibing on the 2400 wing. In summary, if you are heavy and looking for low wind set up, you may get 2400 or 1850. Another choice may test is Moses 1100 which is likely as fast as the 1850.

I had been enjoying the 1550 V2 but decided to get the HA1125 foil. It is faster than the 1550 V2. I had difficulty with the pitch using the 200 stab and decided to use 232 stab+1 shim. It looks like wing foiler had this experience based on wing forum discussion. It would nice to have some input if there is anyone else tried the the new HA1125 for windfoiling.
In early June I asked Armstrong about whether they are developing a foil for windfoiling. Their reply:
The TCW80 fuselage is under testing. Please keep an eye on our website, and I will let you know when it is ready. We [will] have a TCW80 windsurf fuselage option (extends front foil 100mm forward) or you could use the A+ TC70 fuse if your tracks are far enough forward in your board.

I had my 80 cm fuselage for awhile now. But someone ordered A+ 80 cm fuselage 2 months ago and he is still waiting. I tried 60 cm for windfoiling but it was not as stable.

I have the 70 cm fuse the Hs1550 hs1250 and hs1050
my go to is the 1250 in 12-20 kts I find it extremely fast and steady particularly when on swell, where as the 1550 is hard to hold down on swell.
The 1050 I have only used a couple of times in 15-30 kts I find it even quicker but it needs a constant wind
The 70 fuse I find is great and have no problems however I would love a go on the 80
The HS1250 feels pretty good for windfoiling. I used the 1550 V1 for quite a while but it is has to much drag to be good in gusty conditions. The 1250 has plenty of lift and good acceleration which for me is key in gusty winds. I thought about trying the 1125 but didn't have the time to do so. I hope that I will get some good windfoil-days during our vacation.

I have the HS1550 V2 version which is thinner than the V1 version that I read is faster than V1. HA1125 also seems faster than the HS1550 V2 using 232 stab 1+ shim. I also noted the screws on the older wings become loose while the V2 wing holds it pretty good. I ordered the drill kit and planning to add upper holes for conversion. I am curious if you had the V1 or V2 of the HS1550? What was the stabilizer and shims for 1250 and 1050?
Been a while since this thread was active. Any updates on using Armstrong foils for Windfoiling?
A 110kg rider in 12-15 mph able to use the 1550 or go for the 2400 ?
anyone used the 80cm fuse?
cheers

I have been using 80 cm fuselage and I am similar weight. It looks like, Armstrong has not been able to deliver V2 version of 80 cm fuselage in USA; friend of mine ordered his 3 months ago and still waiting for its delivery. For 12 mph conditions, I use 7.0 Flyer sail and 2400 foil which is slower than the 1550. Since you are very good with your pumping (based on your youtubes), 1550 would be probably fine for above 16 mph.
Hey. I'm new here. Been following the thread. I just got the V1 80cm fuselage. I tried the 70cm on my SS Wizard 130 but the foil just wasn't far enough forward. I have CF 1200 and HS1250 wings, 300 stabilizer, 100 mast. I'm switching from SS hoverglide. My favorite wing is the SS gamma 68 (1050cm2 area) been having a blast on it but had 2 failures, a broken fuselage and a broken mast bolt at the mount plate. I went with Armstrong because the system seems durable. I'm 200lbs (90Kg). I'll report when I get to use it. Late fall winds aren't very dependable around here.
All that lightness comes at the cost of stiffness. I checked out a whole bunch of foils recently. Armstrong was really flexy. Fanatic the stiffest by far.

Hows the Armstrong doing for you now for Wind-foiling?
I can't track down an 80cm fuse anywhere and I'm waiting for one so i can buy Armstrong to use for Wind and Wing. I want to get part with my SS infinity and my Gong set up and have one set of kit for the two disciplines.
I just don't know if the 70cm fuse will work for me?
Looking at the 2400 and the 1850 and possibly the 1550 for stronger winds on the Wing.

I enjoyed the freeride with Armstrong foil primarily using 80 cm fuselage with 2400, 1850, 1550 and HA1125. I never used 70 fuselage for windfoiling. Others use 60 or 70 cm for wingfoiling. Noted the SB race foils were much faster and a couple of months ago, I got myself SB IQ foil with 115+evolution and a FMX race foilboard. I definitely feel the speed difference and ride is technically different. Race board rides like regular windsurfing and I could tilt the board and load from the side. On Armstrong foil on Slingshot board, I was mostly keeping the board more flat and slower but able to turn, freeride. When the wind goes above 25 mph, I still use my Armstrong foil but I am now mainly enjoying the IQ foil with 800 front wing/255 back wing.

Armstrong stuff is probably the last gear I'd get for windfoiling. I'd pick SAB or Axis first.

Have been using for 18months in open ocean conditions 1550 & 1250 foils 85mast and 70 fuse
kit works amazing ,however have been trying to hunt down and 80 fuse with no luck.
Am happy to wait
Did Armstrong updated mast construction, what i saw so far was very soft. Another q to the group, are they the lightest foil on the market?

Armstrong mast I have been using for windfoiling is 85 cm which is quite good for windfoiling. I have not seen anyone riding the 100 cm mast for windfoiling. Wingfoilers are quite satisfied with the Armstrong foil and mast performance. Since at our beach we need to carry our boards through some stairs, I wanted a lighter foil and Armstrong was one of the lightest at the time of my selection. However, if one wants speed, it appears other brands are better, especially if longer fuselage is required for faster rides. For freeride, Armstrong seems quite good choice if light gear is very important factor in selection. Set up of foil is also very easy. Axis is beginning get some attention especially among wingfoilers but I have not seen anyone with windfoiling yet at our beach. I noted recently someone put his windfoiling experience with Axis and he was pleased.

By the way, I've read a lot about mast stiffness for windfoiling when they talk about Armstrong masts... However, the comments are usually not specifying as to what type of windfoiling. In wing-foiling, the variable is generally the rider's weight. Most wingers ride their boards standing near the center. However, windfoiling, you have guys that ride narrow freestyle, wave or freeride board with the straps close to the center. They are generally sailing smallish sails between 4.5-6.0m. But then you have the race guys that are sailing wide boards, with the straps at the outer ends of the board, holding down 7-8.0 sails. I'm not expert in foiling, but I'm going to go out on a limb and say that mast stiffness is likely more important to those guys flying big race sails, and not the guys on small boards and sails.

probably a reasonable assumption
not a big fan of armstrong foils, they seem a bit too big fish friendly ![]()

Happy to report hat I have finally used my Armstrong kit with a sail. Ive used the HS1850 and the CF2400 and its been great. I went for the 70cm fuse (A+) and I use the 300 rear wing.
Ive got it pretty much balanced now but to do it I've had to put the Foil mast as far forward in the tracks as possible (Naish Hover) and the sail mast foot as far back as it will go and Ive moved the front foot straps one hole away from the very rear position.
On the water the 2400 is a light wind beast and gets my 240 lbs up and running in 11 knots and the 1850 from 14 knots.
The last session out I put a 1 degree shim in the front half of the stab and it gave me 2 degrees or negative angle which totally made the back foot pressure go away and balanced the foil under my feet.
The goal was to have one foil set for both windfoil and wing foil and I now have it.
really looking forward to trying the HS1550 with a bit more wind.
I spoke to Armstrong yesterday and they confirmed a 80 cm fuse is being developed but can't confirm any timeline.
