Yep...missus olds are having a retirement holiday with the whole family. One week in Wikiki with the family before they head back home & then we're staying 1/2 way between Sunset & Pipe, 10 mins walk either way. Just under that WW2 Pillbox above Pipe. Olds offered to pay the lot, but when we realized how much it was we paid for accommodation & rental van. Will definitely share pics n tales when we get back, cheers

My grommet and I went for a swim.
it appears there was some form of wave on the coast tiny but clean. Really low tide am reef walk found a starfish and seen an octopus. there were a couple cracker crays walking on the reef, the run has got to be soon
I also seen a right peeling down the reef with no one around for miles not a board on me and no care in the world.

Yep, went for an early today. Walk that is. A beach walk. I was the grumpy bloke stomping down the beach and saying hurrrrumph every so often when looking out to sea. Thought I'd better get summer surf fit, so powered out one push up. I'm ready.

Tested the new board (7'0 Delta) in some punchy head & 1/2 to double head fun waves this morning. Absolutely stoked with it, volume feels perfect for me. I was able to sit out back & paddle into the bombs early, but also able to duckdive head high foam balls provided the wave didn't break right out in front of me. Should be great for Hawaii

Speaking of Hawaii Jamie Obrien's (whoisjob) latest YT vid with Ben Gravy shows Jack Robinson getting shacked. I'm guessing he's been given a well deserved invite to this years Pipe contest running sometime between Dec 20-27 & out there practicing.

On a sidenote I heard something interesting this morning. There's a show on 7mate, I forget what its called but have seen a couple of episodes before of these guys in Queensland working as a recovery team. Word is theyre gonna be doing a recovery mission on the whale at G's. There's a lot of mixed feelings about it, some blokes are like this is stupid we should just blow it up like we used to & let a big swell wash it away. Another blokes like we should get the bloody navy in to earn their frigin tax $ & haul it away with a big hellicopter or tow it away with one of those flash boats they have. Another bloke says & I really like this one. We should just let the Japanese pay us to enter our waters & catch the bloody whales before they wash up on our shores lol I said they can have the bloody sharks while they're at it too lol

Oh cool, I didn't know they were from busso. I will be surprised if they don't film it coz its an interesting and challenging operation.

Had some fun chunky double head waves this morning before the cross shore swung to onshore. Young blokes were ripping

Friends, countrymen, lurkers and trolls lend me your eyes.

The sharks are in at the moment, please be aware.

Its not the hammerheads I'd worry about but there is a lot of fish activity at the moment and when the hammerheads are schooling it is likely his relatives are too.

Razz did you see they also closed Yanchep beach because of a detection of a tagged shark..Issue was their is no receiver network up they so not sure how they got that one

Hey jb I didn't see that but I'm a bit dubious of some of the tagged readings.
I didn't know their network was down?

Sometimes you see the same shark sets the receiver off two or three days in a row every few hours, how far does a tag signal go,?

Ie within 50 metres of the sensor or several km ??

The tagged shark has to swim within 250 m of the receiver. So each receiver has to cover about 500m. Having said that swimming up the coast, theirs not a lot of anything, so a big bouy hanging in the water, tends to draw the animal in a little. The network in metro has been out on and off for over the last 6 months. Colin Barnet removed funding for the receiver network and fisheries were forced to pick up the tab.

Part of the problem with SDL and tagging is whats the point if theirs no network of receivers. Second big issue is (as they are finding in northern NSW and even Esperance) constant pining of receivers (also remember fisheries dont tell you if its the same shark or not) is creating a lot of bad feelings and now surfers are simply disregarding the warnings. Most say they preferred to not actually now whats swimming around them..

I have always wondered why they won't let the public know which shark it is, ie shark 024 pings the same receiver once a year for a week or two or shark 28 has pinged this receiver day in/out for months.

If for instance that was public knowledge and a tagged shark was a nuisance one ie shark #666 I for one would be a little more discretionary when surfing.

Its likely it's not released for legal reasons, sharks are innocent until proven guilty
