But a good mid length to paddle up the points this swell season would be nice.

Its the holy grail. Not a gun and not a fun shape.

Tell them their dreaming

I've been sitting here thinking long and hard for a decent reply for you but sadly I've got nothing.

I could have used one this morning - just to get into them a bit easier - so can understand where you are coming form. Especially once the water starts moving down the points and you really start to appreciate the paddle power.

If my memory serves me correctly - you have had a few in your time already

I'm really thing just a bigger thruster ted. Like 6'10 or something. Think I might keep an eye out for a second hander.

Geez pup. Mac get those brain cogs into gear

Loved mine yesterday. Most people were struggling to paddle into the set waves.
Was super glad to have had the extra paddle power. I love this board like no other board I have owned big, small, fat and especially hollow waves, this girl eats them up. You no its not a shorty with the added length, but that is a small sacrifice. It is super loose and super fast. I'm just in love

I prefer the term a longer short board.

That should make everyone happier

My all-rounders have been 6'10" - 7' for quite a few years now. I like that size as they can go down the scale when I over estimate the wave size from home, and they can certainly move up the scale. I frequently surf two spots where a hundred/hundred fifty metre paddle means moving from one reef to another that is two foot bigger. This size board's versatility covers most bases here.

Having said all that, I am looking at getting my first long board shortly. I still can't decide precisely what I want for where I surf as all my shortboard and gun experience seems irrelevant when dealing with mal shapes.

Mate. Its shaped by gerry lopez. I think you'll find he's a pretty big name if you google his name.

bob isnt the only good shaper in the world

In fact the board looks like it could meet the requirements of a point paddler without being a gun or some fun shape.

if you can point something out that bob has that isnt priced for the bmw crew

I dont have to get it at all but it actually looks the ticket.

What I think will do the job as per the post start.

The 9 fter I wouldn't get but I will have a surf on it just to see.

You think they are like the 666s but they are a universe apart. Nothing like them.

More of a tradional approach

down at byron they dont chrispy

Speaking off chrispy what happens is you have a file . The name shaper does a master shape. The asian shapers are around at the point. Also they make a bucket load of shaping templates that these shapers us. Dale was telling me they actually end up doing very a acurate shapes with these templates.

So the idea a old grasshopper with a bit of gauze sitting in a rice field is just stereo typing . Not saying it doesn't happen tho

Doesn't Gerry Lopez live in the snow now ? And wasn't he the guy behind lighting bolt, I loved when Kmart sold their stuff. Just taking the piss Lopez could shape in his sleep. Anyone that thinks pipe is a cake walk is a born surfer.

I saw a guy on the older LB and he was farking ripping on it..

Anyway people your all get worked up about nothing.

He will have it for a month.. max

its like someone who can cut a piece of wood nicely, does not mean you are going to get the same outcome as a chippy who has been doing the job for years or does it?

This last week I've been having a ridiculously fun time surfing a Firewire 6'8' addvance. When its crowded I've got paddle power but without too much length. Combining it's fishy front end in with a pulled in swallow tail and chine rails it gets into waves really well and its a step forward for trimming over flat spots and then a step back onto the tail to have it turn in shortboard mode.
The thing that's really helping it smash the fun meter is riding it as a twin fin. It's just rude how fast I can get this big chunk of foam to go on a half decent wall.
Sure its got 5 sets of plugs but so far I only need 2.
Eventually the crowds may disperse a bit so I can get on my other boards again but for now its crowd control time.
