depth is the measure of how far it will sit in the water - so a 9 incher will be 9 inches from the bottom of the surfboard to the highest point on the fin.

Spoke to the boys at Dion and sorted it out. Their fins are great value and they were super helpful and were patient with me being a cheap skate looking for the cheapest postage to SA.

All in all I thoroughly recommend Dion.

Dion have a nice 10'' Hatchet in wood. It would probably be $70 bucks.

My 9 1/4 Dolphin was $55. Bargain!!

I saw a 7'4" * 22 3/8 * 2 11/16 today at the beach. It had a really flat bottom and thin rails. The thing that got me was the 11 inch fin with a huge amount of rake and fully flexi tip he had on it. Insane. I wanted one. Will try and post a pic of a similar one.

What do you ride on yr Tracker Simondo?

Edit - how good is google - I not only found the fin but also the board !!! Jeepers I love technology

Its a classic midlength with an Alkali flex fin (from that vid I posted the other day)

As you can see its a lovely looking board with a HUGE fin

Looks good ted. The stylemeister we surf with has some lovely midlenghths. Same guy that is in pups Maldives thread. He su fs with a 10" flex fin or a 10" dolphin type.fin....mind you he could kill it on anything.

My straddie/point weapon is 7'5 x20x2 1/2. I will have a 9"Greenough type fin in it...or will try grants 10 incher

Those long/flexible 'finger' fins were the staple of singlefin kneeboards in the 70s. Long, drawn out turns, little friction (even at 10-11" little surface area). Easy to overpower on a modern or trad longboard. Like a hot knife through butter on a vintage Crozier kb. I've got a few hanging around somewhere in garage including a virtually unused volan one.
