Hey dudes/dudettes,
Looks like the family is heading up to the GC for a short trip. My wife has a conference on the Monday 8th May in Brisbane so i'm coming up to look after bub... But we're also heading up early Friday 5th so we have a few extra days to snag a few waves and maybe a Green Room catch up.
We're thinking somewhere around Coolangatta/Rainbow Bay so I can sneak over for an early surf then head back and hang with the family, maybe some evening beers...
Hit me up with some recommendations/thoughts, baring in mind:
We prefer quieter accommodation, mid price, pool for the kids.
Small and less crowded LB waves... Yeah, i know, i'm dreaming but I will get up at 4/5am to hit it
We wont have a car so access to good food and kids stuff by foot.

That sounds great, I'd recommend staying across the road in of one the holiday apartments there are a few but this one is good,I'm not sure of the cost but you will see the views are fantastic,yes you will get fairly uncrowded waves if your in the water by 4 you will probably only be sharing with one or two,5 if also a good time.

cooly is a ****ing hole. more so if you have kids to entertain. it is a grubby ****hole of a place. nice for a coffee after surf on the esplanade...every other part of it is just decay with nothing to do especially if you do not have transport

World class coffee shops mate and the surf has been rated world class by experts,but yes after dark I would not walk the streets.
Mac how in the Fark is the coffee club considered world class lol
And did you forget he has kids and no transport? And you recommend cooly

I would go the northern end ..( chrispy loves visitors).... the open beaches mostly always have swell & you are closer to Dream wrld for the kids...the wife will be happy that the kids have something to do .. and if there is a bit of swell at Snapper you can always rent a dent and travel...

I hope you get some great waves Andy and its not too crowded like it normally is I have never surfed there - as each time I have looked at it I have decided it was safer to have a beer and feed at the Rainbow Surfclub instead. Maybe borrow someones board so you don't damage your own - no need for a legrope amongst the hippster crowd

If the kids are old enough, take'em to currumbin wildlife sanctuary. I had no idea Oz had tree kangaroos till we visited there. Awesome place!
