yes indeed - just check the scoring out and look at the quality of the competitors. It was crap. A shame.

First heat in the water now, looks like there's plenty of swell.

I checked out some of the waves this morning - seems you get big scores for going straight! I thought after reading that guide the other day they were wanting more. Some impressive drops but what a shame the swell never really delivered. Far too bumpy on the face.

Some monsters out there last night in the big wave event.

Woke this morning hoping Pipe was on Kong has posted some nice shots this morning so size at Pipe don't know why they called a lay day.

He posted it and then minutes latter removed it, so we may still see him surfing. I agree he should surf the event.

I like the idea of remembering AI in events, but it would seem the ASP is only doing it to help sell merchandise IMHO

Classic case of not really thinking through the consequences of your decision making process.

I can not wait to see their media release to squirm themselves out of this one. I would burn some Billabong gear in protest and instragram it - if I had any left that is !!!!!

From what I have seen LL he is nowhere near his best but still better than 99.99999% of the surfers out there.

I have no issue with them axing him on a performance basis - but surely if they were going to do that they would have discussed this with him a long time ago - not the day before. That is just poor.

Trying to compare apples with oranges think about the Eddie. Eddie's bro Clyde was still being invited into the field in 2011/12 despite him not being the best fella going around - in fact a very ageing one. He won it once in 1986.

Quiksilver on the surface of it seem to respect the heritage whilst Bong do not. BB seem to play on that who I'm memory if AI thing massively - were they not the one's that had a pretty good insight into what was going on and tuned a blind eye ? Not making the accusation - just recalling back to several articles written by well respecting journo's following his death.

I saw a few clips of him pulling into tubes with flares which were pretty good but not sure how much he surfs.

He won the Eddie, won pipe, grew up surfing the north shore and didn't get a run in the top 28 Hawaiians in the trials in an event named after his brother.

You'd have to think theres a good reason, I'd think it would be hard for bong to just snub him if the local crew were behind him being in the trials.

If he ha been snubbed then someone from billabong is literally going to get an arse kicking.
