Stoked? Stoked to see a new fin arrive via courier earlier today. Current (lack of) cash flow means I'm not about to buy another board, but for $52 delivered, this fin will let me have some thruster style fun on my 6'6 egg, my 7'2 midlength and a 666. They are all great as 2 plus 1 boards, but hell, this will be fun to play with all the same.

Where from? Are these much bigger than a normal thruster fin? Might be good as a 2+1 for my next comp!

Cheers,
Tom.

From here:
shapers.com.au/box-fins/
Mine's the equivalent of a size 7 in the FCS, but they do them in the equivalent of the size 5 (which is about the size of the average stock thruster fin, i think.) The dimensions are on the website. Good mob to deal with.

I am after something that I can turn hard and easily on but also still stay on the nose, as long as I can stretch five and maybe ten... Any ideas?

Now Tom lets get one thing straight i am no expert when it comes to fins however i had that set up on a 9'1'' hp board yes i could do a 5 not a 10 because i wasn't quick enough to get back carrying 100kgs i'd nose dive but having said that i could still be with in 10'' from the nose with both feet together ,someone like yourself no probs i suppose it comes down to you having to try out different fins, get sponsored by a fin company as well.

Fair point! I would try a fin company but not sure who to try. Any ideas?

Might try a 7 or an 8 inch dolphin. Haven't decided yet...

Just having a cold one and playing around with the 7'2 and the new fin. So far i can't get the new fin to sit down in the finbox without a couple/few mm of the fin's base (the rectangular prism bit in engineering terms ) sitting above the height of where the box meets the board. That's with it screwed in as tight as it wants to go, so if the screw is through the plate (as it seems to be) then there is a problem with the base of the fin in relation to the box. And that's putting a smaller (in every other way) fin in where an 8'' fin sits snug. (yet, when I hold the fins beside each other, the dimensions of the base (the bit that should slot in to the box and sit below the level of the the board, so as to be nice and aqua-dynamic) look similar in the most important ways. I suppose half a mill or so could make all the difference... Shall try it in my 6'6 egg and 666 in the morning, and hopefully do a meatloaf -- "2 outta 3 ain't bad." Otherwise shall spend my Breeze time corresponding with the Shaper's dudes... I know this isn't interesting but it's helping me vent.

Could be the bottom of the fin hitting the box, if so Just file a few mm off the bottom... Take less time than it did to type the post. Never had a fin that didn't need a match or stick under it, bit of tape on the sides or to be filed before fitting. Getting one that fits first time would be a miracle.

Thanks SP. That makes sense. I've done the tape caper a few times over the years. (I am a fast typist but a sh1t filer but I will file it's little ass off tomorrow. )
Thanks again!

True that.
But as George Costanza would say "I'm back baby!!" With SP's advice and old mate over the road's file, I am back in biz. And will soon be surfing like the back-foot power-luvvin spawn of Kanga Cairns and Kong again.
