My favourite sports writer Malcolm Knox with another great opening line. Under the headline: "For Manly Sea Eagles fans, now is the winter of our discontent" he begins, "Toovey or not Toovey? That is the question..." And there are a few other nods to the bard:

As a proud Manly supporter I am not too concerned. MK sums it up nicely with "What's changed is that this year he only has about eight fit first-grade-quality players." Its very early in the season. Lets not forget that you do not even have to win half your games to make the finals ! Its a competition that rewards average performers for the benefit of the TV networks. Manly may benefit from this stupid concept for once I expected us to drop off a bit this year and a lot next year. We may have fallen further than I thought and far quicker - but the season is but a few games old. The Roosters - who I thought and still do - will / might do pretty good this year - have lost 3 on the trot. And lets be fair - can a Ricky Stewart side really play well for a whole season? Can the Dragons keep this form up? Can the Tiger Pups survive for a whole season without key injuries? Can Cronulla really put a few games together without a few extra stimulants? Can the Titians keep up there form? Even the Souths have looked rusty at times There are questions to be asked on all clubs but its very early days. Nothing to worry about just yet. Round 14 before I will start to get annoyed. If the salary cap really does work then the Manly club should be rewarded for over performing over a long stretch of time. But we all know its a crock of crap and the intentions of the Cap are not played out in a balanced format across all teams for a variety of reasons. Manly have done well to remain such a top team for so long. But in all reality they should have had to rebuild a few times by now. This indicates to me they are either cheating (Storm, Broncos, Bulldogs in recent years etc) or a place that blokes like to play for and they do well because of it. I like to think its the later

Things change. This time last year the Titians were leading the comp and never made the 8 - just saying

Souths did nothing for over forty years Manly have just had a few bad games ! Let's put it in perspective

Form means nothing gents.
This comp is only 7 rounds into 26.
Surely we've learnt that by now.
It's fun debating but I'll just sit back and wait for the semis.
Ted, your mob needs to win 11 from the next 18 games to make the top 8.
(Based on 28 pts historically being 8th place).
Carrying form into the semis means little as Canterbury came in 7th and made the GF last season.
It's good to see there are plenty of teams up there with the potental to win. It should be a cracker season ahead.

come on scotty,
it was a very close season last year
there was nothing between 1st and 12th in points.first time in a long long time.
this year its showing a few teams really struggling, one of those is manly,, as the McDonalds add goes.

i'm loving it.

Whats sad and must be asked, why are manly players jumping ship (its not sad really)
and what will be the fallout (who really cares)

Come on Cobra
Although the ladder was close last season, there was only 2 teams you could back - Souths and Roosters.
Go the bunnies tonight.

Manly did not want DCE anyway - they wanted to keep KF but once KF went they changed their tune re DCE but it was too late. DCE knew he was not really wanted.
