who says they are critically low. they could be running rife. there may just be bucket loads of them with no where else to go because of low fish stocks.

hard to know what to believe when those peoples living comes from researching endangered sharks. its a give me

no longer endangered the research industry goes down the tubes .

if a shark kills or attacks some one its got to go. cant have that shark running around with a free for all new learnt behaviour. call it a cull if you must

don't come back with the' its your fault you should have has a surf safe' caper

Marine biologist who's job it is to study these animals. They have done so, released peer reviewed papers that have included DNA testing. Scientists all over the world have supported the fact that these sharks numbers are critically low, thats why they are listed on the worlds ICUN list..

Just because its inconvenient to believe these people, doesn't make it right to do so..

Also the idea that marine scientists cover up the truth of the numbers increasing to keep there jobs is so silly its not worth debating..Id wouldn't even expect that from my eleven year old.

In your opinion.

It wouldnt be the first time fudging has occurred. To believe it doesnt happen is to have child like naivety.
Take you and your views for instance. It suits you and your interests to have as many sharks around as possible. Ie more device sales

JB you & I have debated this enough over the years. So I'm not going to bother writing too much in response to you, we both know where we stand on this topic...I'll simply agree to disagree and point out that pretty much any hypothesis can find research to back up that belief & of course like minded peers are going to approve of the findings when it suits a shared agenda.

Lacey its not my opinion, I'm just sharing what the science is saying..

To say the entire worlds marine biologists are fudging just to get some extra funding, well thats Tin hat territory..

I have no interest is sales of devices. I just simply say to those who want a answer its their. So its $400 well whats your life worth, don't want one, thats fine. Its no skin of my nose. BUT i have once again just looked at the science behind it and its sound and makes sense.

I don't disagree with this statement. But we are not talking about sharks in general, we are talking about Great Whites..

My argument has always been kill of the larger sharks like great whites, then watch the population of smaller sharks (Often more aggressive sharks) bloom..

there's talk life guards be armed with high power rifles to blast away at any shark that comes in too close.

all life guards will be well trained and would under go a intensive 1 hour course in the usage of firearms

Well we've had two shark attacks in one week here, watch the greenies twist this one.
They will say look drums don't work, when again both attacks nowhere near mainland and bait drums .

I haven't seen any of such comments from the greenies, TBH considering its been some time now also i doubt we will either. Actually your the first person to link the drum lines in the area and the attacks

One was a guy spearfishing and the other a young guy bitten by a reef shark.. Drum lines were never going to protect them, i think thats a given so no need to point out the obvious.

Just as the drum lines didn't protect anyone on the beach from the 4plus metre Great White Mac shared.

The media love this crap they thrive on it, what do you hear about the 140 people who died on West Aussie roads alone in 2015?
140 ....and some say they care about the loss of life, but don't give a rats about trying to make a diffrence to where the real problems are.

140 people dead In one state, in one year. V's how many from sharks in WA for 2015.

Kill Sharky or Hug Sharky all irrelevant, comensurate effort to the threat. road deaths are a far greater issue than big biteys.

and......speaking of Northern NSW Threads .... I think I'd really like to live at Emerald beach or around that way somewhere?? Where's good, I'd like a decent left somewhere? Good for a family with school aged kids.

348 in NSW - up 41 on the previous year - now thats worth looking at a bit more one would think. Pedestrian deaths jumped from 42 to 62 and deaths from P-plate crashes were up by 16 to 50. There was also a 33 per cent increase in fatalities on metropolitan roads. So all in all a pretty poor performance from NSW road users it would seem.

Egads! Pretty horrific numbers Ted, and a huge increase, that's scary.

Without going deliberately to look that up, i would never have known...but i could tell you where a shark was seen. That's a bit sad. Important to inform ocean users of hazards, but when it comes to media hype i think there's a far greater moral obligation for the media to raise road safety issues and awareness rather than scare the crap out of the the already scared.

The P-plate numbers are terrifying as a lot of those I'm guessing would have been young people? I bet texting and driving accounts for some of the issue there?
