could be - might just be a tighter box unit too

You know what they say ... tight box is better than a sloppy one

Yeah but the box wouldn't like being hit with a mallet

never force it into the box.

Signed Don Burke.

I've got the feeling that old Don did force it.

Great looking board. Post up a ride report when you get a chance to ride it.

A bit of wax on the base of the fin helps them slide in easier to if they are borderline.

Hey All,
Looks like it was mostly the first couple of fins i tried in the board that were perhaps on the wider side of things.
Went through my, albeit small, collection of fins dug out those that had been packed with duct tape to fit snuggly in my other boards.
in hindsight, it's probably the better of all the fin boxes of my boards, seeing as most fins fit nice and snug without needed to be built up with duct tape or the like.

Now - ride report.... given the holidays and subsequent crowds, i've been surfing ****tier beach breaks that no one else wants. Sadly, they then become mostly take off, ride for a fraction of a second, and pull out before ending up on the sand.

Braved Currumbin this morning. Nice and crowded as usual. Board paddles really well. Or at least gives the impression of an excellent paddling board (i feel like i'm flying along!). Got a few OK waves, and got a much better feel for the board. Very stable, that's for sure. Perhaps a little sluggish and slow in the turns, at least compared to my 9'6 Tea Tree (which, to me, is pretty much a magic board). Spent a few moments moving up and down the board looking for it's sweet spot, and without realising, i just about walked off the nose.
So while it's perhaps not as zippy as the Tea Tree, that's certainly balanced by it's stability and what appears to be ease of nose riding.

And after all that, more time playing with fin set up may loosen her up a bit. Rode it today with a 10" Alkali Flex fin and side bites. Going down to a 8.5" - 9" centre is probably a better call. Maybe even leaving the sidebites out and running as a single fin.

Cheers!
