So, I've been having a play around with a 6'6 mini longboard, which was great but I want something a touch longer so sold it over the weekend along with a couple other boards.

In terms of midlengths, I've got a 8'1 Mctavish ufo and 8' Takayama Scorpion II but want (don't need) something to fill that void between shortboards and 8' + boards. I'm after a 6'8 - 7'6 Mid-length/egg type board, would like to have a few fin options. Mostly used on a head high beach break and the points.

This is what i've narrowed it down too, would like to know what other people think.

First option is a secondhand 6'10 takayama scorpion - the guy wants $1100NZD for it and wont budge It's a poly one made in Oceanside. Looks good but has a few little cosmetic dings.

Second option is 7' Mini longboard gives me fin options and is brand new http://raglanlongboards.co.nz/index.php/9-stock-surfboards/161-stock-1505945-mini-lb

Third option is one of the GSI Modern love child or Creative Army Huevo

I've only really only got about a $1k to spend and talked to a couple local shapers who want more than that for a custom so rules that option out. my heart says option one, My head says option 2, the wife says I don't need a new board.

What should i get?

First off..
Don't listen to the missus...they ain't called the "handbrake" for nothing..
Secondly..
Go the Taky Scorpion 6/10..if it doesn't work you can always get your money back, as the're popular (at least over here) and try something else.
Thirdly..
You are aware that as soon as you buy a board of "compromise"..the one you want comes up for sale ..cheaply
Good luck with option 2.

I'm not so sure about mid lengths. cobra is probably right.

I have a 7 fter which goes good in bigger waves , not real big, unruly crowded line ups but not much else.

wouldnt you be better with a longer short board, not too narrow given the description of the waves you want surf it in

I've had a zillion short and longboards, but for a while there (beach break scrounger that I am) a 7'2 semi-egg shape was my go-to board for the average days. Manouverable enough, nice edge on the rails, bit of volume under the chest, nice glide for its length.... bazinga.
I'm with Surfbroker re the Takayama. Except ... surely $1100 not negotiable is really $1000 cashola.

I missed out on a nice scorpion about a month ago for cheaper, I haven't been looking but have been keeping an eye out for one and these are the first ones i've seen in the last 12- 18 months. I wont to avoid the the tuflite and surftech ones tho is that right? here are some picks of the board!

Yes it's hard to offer advice when we're more familier with Aussie deals and offers.
Might be a wait & see option #4 which I failed to mention above.

#4. Keep putting your hard earned away a bit longer and get a custom done if nothing comes up in the meantime..
Good luck

Egg in any configuration

Think Chripys Bonzer egg suggestion...Howard Mini Special...a nice new Egg/mid length from Corey Graham

My preffered dims are between 7'2 and 7'11 must be under 22" wide..two plus one...low pinched rails...rolled vee in the back part...mine was good from 1 foot to 8 foot...until I smashed it up

Nah mini mal has a wider nose is usually between 8 and 9 feet...has a wider template...more nose rocker...less foiled in the tail..etc etc

Good on you. Looks like a great fun board. Love the tail and I reckon a sneaky hang five will be back in the repertoire.

chrisp Nice board

Mid haters are the blokes who ride a 666 or own a longboard just to stand in one spot throwing pizzas in the air... these people own noseriders and in reality should save their money and not even wax ones board past the half way point as the nose is something they only ever wipe the latte froth off.

They are just missing out and scared

Surf em all said some bloke on here once or twice

There are heaps of options in this zone. I have a 7'4 Eagle Sword Heartache and a NPJ duo at 6'10. Both eggy shapes.

Check out the Insta accounts for Ash Ward #heartache, Neal Purchase and his duos. Has a seconds account - Neal Purchase used and abused. Also Corey Munn and Simon Jones who makes the morning of the earth boards. Each have wicked 6'10 to 7'6 eggy shapes.
