Morning wide point shot. Same design brief as a McT Carver but executed a bit differently.

Really nice outline, bit much rocker for me but i don't surf bigger stuff... should be fun though, let us know how she goes

Hey Andy,
I'm starting to chicken out these days. Not that it gets "big" like other places big on the Sunshine coast. It's all relative though. It also has a lot to do with choice of board for me. If it lets me paddle in early and the board lets me push hard when needed it makes a huge difference.
A long time ago i bought a 9' Michael Cundith gun he'd made for Andrew McKinnon to surf Sunset. Took it out on a cyclone swell day at the Boiling pot. The board paddled like a shark. Fastest board paddling in flat water I have ever experienced. Even paddling against the rip at low tide on a solid day was no dramas when everyone else was giving up and doing a run around.
Anyway, caught a big wide one that let me in so early I can still remember looking back at the lip throwing as I took the drop...it was so easy. Of course couldn't turn it for **** so great board for its design brief not humble Noosa size.
Reckon the rocker could make it a board I surf in normal waves when I want to cruise in amongst lots of crew.

Picked this up today. Basically swapped it for the 7'4" triple stringer I posted pics of previously.
Surfed the triple stringer during Oma and I really didn't gel with it.
My favourite midlength is a 7'6" Woosley vquad shaped by John Mills at the Beachbeat factory.
It's got a nice deep double concave running along the bottom that gives it great speed.
It's 7'6" x 21" x 2&3/4".
This newie is 7'8" x 22" x 2&7/8".
More rocker especially in the nose and with a wider tail.
Photo from the tail is deceptive and doesn't show the wide point forward at all.
Board was a custom order. Guy who ordered it wanted a wider nose. Bumped into Millsy the shaper at the beach and told him he wanted it to go top to bottom well. So he agreed to have more rocker and to pull the nose in.
When he saw the board he said he didn't like it so they are making him another one.
I've seen mature surfers riding boards just like this one at Granite and my local point many times over the years.
They can sit well out the back and stroke into set waves early but still carve it up more shortboardy style than longboard style.
Hopefully it will go well...kinda looks like the board Machado is riding in Toobz's clip he posted above.

You have great taste in boards CF. Looks like it should be a great all rounder.

Thanks SP...reckon you nailed it.

Well, your a braver man than me dude... I used to go chasing the bigger/gnarlier stuff but over the last few years I just kinda lost the desire... I really just like a nice cruisy right hand wall to go gliding across or hanging 5 across... Anyways, I reckon this one looks like a pretty good balance then, its a nice eggy outline but looks a bit more streamlined so it give you that paddle to get in early but looks like it will turn pretty nice as well... Looks like a keeper but I guess you just never no till you get her wet... fingers crossed for the weekend.

I think this might need to be my next learning curve, been skirting around the concept for a long time of a full displacement hull... always keen try and master something different.

Me too. Maybe we could consider going halves in a Liddle Hull? (Or thirds or quarters if there's anyone else in SE Tassie interested...)

I've got the fin already.

Yeah, I was looking at a Death Machine awhile back but went with Lizzy instead as a more user friendly option...

I believe Hulls can be pretty humbling... anyways... thanks to Mchenry the fire has been re-sparked so I sent a message to empire about getting one shaped, dims/cost etc so i'll letya know how I go when they get back to me... need to move the fish to accommodate though so we'll see...

Early tomorrow looks promising btw...

LOVE that one... I tried to get him to shape me a Vacquero when he was in Aus recently but it was strictly a leisure trip... would not be surprised if heads back soon though as he loved the trip...

I think his boards are a bit more user friendly than the Liddle...

Thats a bummer for tomorrow

Yeah, he comes across as just a sensationally decent guy. For sure the Vaquero looks way less extreme, it's got the full hull rocker though.
If I ever do the hull thing it'll be the full deal, at least at first, and for me that means a Liddle.

Yeah bummer about tomorrow but we had such a good run of waves here until a few days ago that I'm not wailing. Also Saturday morning I'd rather head away from town rather than towards.

Agreed...

I've been keen on a Liddle for a long, I'd love an original but a great ghost shaped will have to do... If the price is right... Or if they actually get back to me, 3 days waiting now...

And yeah, I WILL get an Andreini of I get the chance... Even if I have to fly to the states to get one...

I'd also love a Skipp Fry if I get there... But I think I need to order that a 2 years out so that's ambitious...

Crowd where I'm going is a bitch for sure, but I'll be in the water on sun up at 6am and out before most of the crowd are out of bed...

I couldn't find this on the net anymore so had to dredge it out of a hard drive and re-upload it.

From what I read, Jimmy Gamboa was jaded with longboards and dedicated himself to hulls, no idea if that is true or not, then or now. He's certainly nailed it in this clip though. Love that casual forward stance high line...

Definitely hulls these two boards! Also definitely not mid length at just shy of 13 feet long. I spent a lot of hours on them but never in the surf. (They're old school Olympic class windsurfers.)

Looks like I'm all out of step with the Gamboa video above. Seems it's not even Jimmy Gamboa in the video at all...

"Billy Death Fantastic Man." Below....

Begs the question of where did the Death Machine get it's name?

Probably too much trainspotting for me to be bothered following this up, but hey the click click leads strange places sometimes so you never know...

Answer to my question above:

Yep this is a serious Hull bender I'm on and it's not likely to stop until the new board arrives!!!!

Don't like the video prelude? I think it's kind of cool, with his broken board, and beer and cigarettes don't give a **** attitude.

An almost forgotten art of sailing these
Looks great to be able to sail from there.
Great fun upwind on the rail, can involve swimming if its windy and there's no way you can ride a wave.
Sailing got me into windsurfing then windsurfing got me into surfing.
Having 7'6" was great but kids work and heavier with less wave size now ride 8'4". If the waves are smaller sup surf.
Make the most of what conditions are

The nsp sup race boards were developed from them.
Only for the really good.
Otherwise painful to use and really hard to surf. Hard to turn because they just roll when you apply the ' rail'

Why anyone thinks this is a good idea for a surfboard is beyond me and those vids, well i just see it as a waste of good waves
