Hi all. nice to see a good longboarding section.
now a Melbournian EX Morninton peninsula Rye, got into LB when i was 15, fell in love with the high line glide and nose ride. did compete in my younger days in Maladiction but given that away now i'm 35+.
I have mainly rode 8 footers and 9,1s. recently traded my 9,1 for a performance 8 footer that's 3 thick. really enjoy it as you can still nose ride and surf whatever waves are on offer, without losing paddling power.
my old sticks and current sticks! blue trigger gone for the 510 and imperial traded for new 8 footer. the imperial was a great board but have to say enjoying the new trigger stick alot. from what i've found if drop down to 8 - 8/6 and keep some thickness they perform very well and can still be nose ridden.

Had 5 fin options on the last few wide nose/tailed shorties & favoured the quad option. But the newy I picked up in Sept is a bit narrower in the tail, like a Hypto & I'm riding it as a thruster.....Your new log plans sound pretty cool, always good to have a log in the quiver. I've only had one & it was a regretfull sale once summer rolled around again ![]()

Just asked Mick as the 9,1 i used to ride was a shaped Quad. it was too fast to nose ride so I had a center plug added. toying around with the idea of making current 8 a quad as it could use a little more speed on certain waves. there's a few waves on the mornington penin you need a log some fellas out there are riding 10 footers! it's a while away yet. i like to keep an eye on gum tree some bargains do pop up from time to time.
Hey vicco, you surf the island much ![]()
Hi Cobra, i used to surf a lot at the Island, i'm lazier now just drive to the Peninsula! it's a classic set up love the place. best beat down i ever took was at express point. needed 10min in the Chanel to contemplate life after the beating i took trying to take off to late on the ledge. ![]()
woolimai, surfies point, flynns right point, shellies ect alot of good places. have you surfed there?

Yep early 90s did a little bit of longboarding at cat bay but mainly woolimai with a mate who shaped for islantis
and few of the mad boardriders crew on shorties, had my biggest surf ever at wooliami
jusr too cold for me at winter **** having blue balls.
yep loved the peninsula and over to the west coast not much up the east coast, not much there really
Did get the odd wave around the lakes think it was called red bluff or red cliffs.
Yep vic gets an 8
You got -2 points for the cold![]()

but then don't listen to soft northerners![]()

Hey Cobra, Woolis is great imo has produced best banks in vic (big call i know) i've had a lot of sessions in cat bay lovely place, you'd be shocked if you saw the island now has really changed since the 90s like MP and Torquay. trick to vicco is a very good winter wettie! but the getting changed part really sucks. summer is ok but we get best surf here in Autumn/winter. we had a classic winter in 17. I've never surfed past kilcunda. heard mallacoota area has some spots. apart from MP i spend time at the west coast but it's way too busy there now. Wikki pop by far my fav wave regularly has crowds of 20-60
, surfing has really made a resurgence in VIC , sups in particular. but you can still get quite sessions if you surf at the right times. I like to spend more time around Lorne and wye river lots of beautiful spots and lower crowds!
Nice artwork on those boards Vicco and what's wrong with going in the over 35 or 40 divisions ?
welcome ![]()
Thanks smh, nothing i'm just too lazy now but one day last winter they took over atlas at shoreham when swell was massive was wishing i was competing that day!
Mollymook longboard club has a 2 point score limit for non members should of said you were interested in becoming a member. Would of surfed epic with 3-4-5 others. That's one reason to join a club as long as the club has respect within the community and get to surf without free surfers in the zone. But some places are just too close to civilisation.

Hi BandB,
Are they still running the 8foot comps? I watched a few on Youtube. I surfed Molly once when was up at Ulladulla lovely part of Australia!. The LB clubs in Vicco have a 9,1 min length, so 8 would go into the retro division i think. the clubs here take over a break when they hold a comp. most of us plan around it. it's great they're still going strong.
Mollymook runs a charity classic in August each year. It's a two day event and run longboard over 9 ft open and age, 8ft open , women's , juniors and old mal. As with all local surf comps you surf what's thrown up with two options in the area.

Most clubs try to run divisions along the same lines as the state governing body..i.e Vic titles have a 9'0 minimum with a 56 inch minimum width (nose, tail and middle combined) and a bunch of divisions then most clubs will stick to the same restrictions and divisions

Hey Tux, what coast do u spend most your time at?
Yeah I had a great time living in Apollo Bay in the mid 90's surfing between Johanna & Lorne. Some of the best barrels of my life was a small head high day at Johanna, epic bank in the middle of the beach with just 2 other friends ![]()
West is best...though not at the moment it's honking SW at the moment
Summer sucks there though, (exclud 13th and fairhaven)
