Tell me about the Waikiki board. How's it different to what you ride at LM, for example?

On the times I've been lucky enough to go to Waikiki, I've found I prefer a longer, wider (hire) board.

And what are the specs to get it on the plane? or will you be keeping this one over there once it's done?

Yes on my last trip I met a couple of older American ladies who had Makaha Surfboards make a couple of custom boards designed for Waikiki .
Very similar to a MCT fireball plan shape but with a wide tail like the MCT noserider with 50/50 rails. Anyone who has surfed on the south shore will tell you its a soft wave so volume is the key,so I had it made 23 1/4 x 3 1/4 and kept it 9.6 for air transport.I kept the fireball rails so the thing looks like a noserider but rips.

Another nice board And supporting local economy.

Just done a count of all boards (3 surf, 3 sup, 5 windsurf, 1 kite,1 tow board and 1 wake board) and only one I made.

Back to the Waikiki board - how do you find getting it there and back?
i always thought the excess luggage fees would have been up there with buying a new one over there, giving it to a grom down by the wall before you leave, and still walking away with having spent less.

On the occasions I have had the luck to fly over there, I have always flow Hawaiian, except for once on Qantas, then back to Hawaiian.
I thought they had a max board length of 8 ft or something? Maybe 9 ft?

I'd be thrilled to take my own boards in the future (if I ever get to go again) but gotta admit, I do like sampling the boards at KBS.

I have a real reason for disliking Asian imported boards, I've been part of a industry which closed down in Australia due to Chinese imports so I speak with passion and first hand experience which I've mentioned before.

I try to extend my purchases of local products far beyond just surfboards. Owning a couple of Chinese boards is keeping others from buying them once they see me kooking it on them.
Just out of curiousity have you ever asked Bob why he had some board models made by Surftech?

Bob does not have a say in it as he does not own the business nor his own name

So based on others doing the same thing i can only assume it was for the owners of mctavish to make money ? Mac ?
