How much trust do YOU put into them?
We all seat back at work or doing other things and start dreaming of our next free time.
I get excited but sometimes they get it wrong.
How much trust do you put in yours and who do you seek the information from?
I chatted with Asea Thursday and his prediction over the weekend has proved correct, now I await tomorrow
for a promising outcome.
Edit - for Scotty ![]()
Learn to read a weather map and go from there. Lots of great tools out there these days to make life easy.
WindyTV is a great source of knowledge.
If you just trusting the main guys - swellnet, coastalwatch, surfline and magic seaweed then keep records of them - when they are good and when they fail. They should be pretty good three days out.
Also BOM is a great reference point. Most people base a lot of their stuff off them. If you want to go out more than three days then you can pay for a premium service - but really there is no need. You can get a good handle on things by watching the longer models on windytv to see where the swell is. Also watch the BOM coastal Observations - you can see what the winds are doing up and down the coast.
The key is to work out who to trust the most in your area. So you need to do some homework and then make some calls yourself. Personally never have to much drama these days with all the tools at my disposal.
I normally check the weather at least 2 or 3 times a day - sometimes more ! Always looking at what is happening out where the swell comes from and making my own judgement calls. I hate it at this time of the year as the WA to VIC coast starts to light up and there is nothing here.

And thats why asea gets waves. Learn the wind and swell and you will be ok.
Go use that bike of yours Mac and check out the banks at your local ....oops you only surf lm. How in the **** can you get that place wrong?
First thing I do before I go to bed is check the wind....first thing I do when I wake up is check the wind...I know where I will be surfing just from that![]()
Wind wind wind. Yep. Also the first thing I do when I get up

True Chrispy I was thinking long term forecast 5 days plus.
But your earlier question talks about forecasting - so you need to get in with the big stuff and explore and learn.
Also have a look on swellnet as a learning platform
Check this stuff outhttp://www.swellnet.com/reports/australia/queensland/gold-coast/forecaster-notes
Read that every few days when it comes out and compare that to what you are seeing and the judgement calls you are making. You will learn very quickly.
Also Seabreeze does a reasonable job depending where you live
I like this new feature of the new website - it picks up the wind in the coastal locations around where you are

But we have it really easy on the coast compared to the stupid of the East Coast when it comes to predictions imo
I usually get on the BOM site and check the forecast Synoptics and they are laid out 4 days ahead . When I'm waiting for a southerly to hit I check out the BOM site again and look under observations or get on the radar section to track storms .

Point taken and adjustments made. You just need to stick to windytv - right up your alley bro
Beer in Manly this week Scotty? Wed / Thurs or Friday works for me
I look eagerly, but only in excited anticipation...if I have the day off & there is anything resembling a wave I'm out there. If its significantly bigger or smaller than expected I pop home for another board. But yeah, I don't put a lot of trust in them from the point of view that the wind predicted to be the predominant wind for the morning/mid day/arvo may be later or lighter than expected & even if correct the other wave effecting elements may well over power any disturbance in froth.
Meteye on BOM for wind forescast.
We have local live wind on Baywinds.
Mostly doing flatwater stuff so swell not that critical.
But just go and look.
BOM
Stormsurf
Willy Weather
Swellnet
Coastwatch
Seabreeze
...I'm pretty obsessive about weather...some times it leads to a bad case of over froth
..Down here if something starts spinning up around Heard Island I'll start tracking it and cross my fingers..when it gets close I'm on checking every hour that day before it arrives....the difference between good weather and **** is about 4 hrs in Summer and 1-2 hrs in Winter
I never learnt to read them all that well, but now it just does not matter anymore. I'm far more likely to avoid going in when it's big than when it's small.
Planning trips around a forecast was too much hard work, I just go when I'm scheduled to go, and take my chances, as well as a good book to read.
I use them to plan my sickies...
Certain number mean a certain point will be breaking and that means i'm ringing up sick.
Day to day i look but not obsessive. Not going anywhere but local and usually have an idea of what it will be like anyway.
I like Seabreeze charts. Buoyweather was good before they only let you look 2 days ahead and the usual suspects BOM, Swellnet and Coastal watch seem to cover this bit of coast pretty good. Weather zone is usually pretty good for winds predictions as well.

Logistical nightmare to get to Manly at the moment with 3 x kids sports, training, etc every arvo.
Im over northern beaches tomorrow if you're keen for brunch at Girdlers cafe.
Quick glance at any chart that's working , outside spit on the finger & see where the wind really is blowing - then into the car to actually see it
Mostly I just get up at 4 - and get the fark out for a look & surf it anyway
I find Willyweather is usually pretty on the mark, just put in your desired location. As above to go looking![]()
